Just Friday

Thank you to everyone who advised changing the needles I’m using to make my shawl. I visited our nearest well-stocked wool shop to try out some alternatives. They had some bamboo and wooden needles but none of the interchangeable sets. I liked the feel of the Brittany needles made from sustainable harvested birch. What a difference! They have made knitting the shawl so much simpler. My stitches are easier to control and the needles are more comfortable to hold. I’m a convert!

Thank you also to all of you that commented on Friendship cakes. Herman survived and prospered. We all became quite fond of Herman and he sat in prime position on the kitchen table for ten days, wafting a wonderful yeasty fragrance. Forget the smell of baked bread from the oven or freshly brewed coffee. I think a friendship cake sitting on a kitchen counter would help to sell any house. Smells like home.

I decided to go with Marie’s suggestion of the Amish Apple cake. It is beautiful. (Thank you, Marie). I might add more cinnamon next time, but it is such a fitting end to our fragrant house guest. The tubs have been distributed to friends and I included a slice of the apple cake with each one. I still have one tub in the house, as AJ wanted to bake a cake too. She’s deciding whether she wants to keep it for another 10 days or bake. I don’t mind either way.

So to all of you that spare the time to leave comments and send me emails, I thank you for your friendship. To all of you that read my ramblings, I thank you too for your time. You guys rock. You really do. I just wish I could send you all a slice of this yummy apple cake.

Have a great weekend.

I’ll be picking out the winner of the socks tomorrow. So last chance to enter, if you haven’t already.

(End note to 2-oven Aga users (and to remind me!). I baked the cake in the top oven, on the fourth rung from the top, with the cold shelf on the top rung, for 30 mins. Should be golden brown on top but not yet firm. Then moved the cold shelf to the second rung of the bottom oven and put the cake on top of it for 1 hr 15 mins.)
