Celebration

Celebration at the Tor

Happy Solstice! Blessings to all. We’re just back from watching the sunrise on top of Glastonbury Tor. With everyone home for the summer, all five of us made it out of bed in time today and up the Tor. Not sure when that last happened. Today was a breathtakingly early start and a steep, fast climb. A suitable end to a week packed to the brim with celebration, with more on the horizon.

Glastonbury Tor. Solstice celebration

Glastonbury Tor is a hill (project we did), with St Michael’s tower at the top. I love how the people unknowingly highlight the contours of the slopes, as if lined up by nature itself. It doesn’t matter at which angle you look at the Tor, if there are people up there, then there is a human picket fence trailing along the curves.

Finished

Final pickup from Manchester Uni, this week. Apart from Eldest’s year abroad, we’ve spent the last four years trailing up north to pick or drop her off at each end of the semesters. The M6 has altered and generally improved over that time, as has our Eldest. She has grown, for sure. Final pickup was a celebration. Just the graduation left.

Poppy celebration

Not to be left out, Youngest finished his A Levels and fourteen years of school, this week too, which was another cause for celebration. His last maths and physics papers are done. We can only wish them luck as they wind their quiet way to an examiner for marking. Also heartily hope that said examiner doesn’t encounter any Lego, with bare feet, prior to marking his papers. None of us want that to happen.

Garden

I’ve reached the point, in the garden, where no more plants need planting on into flower or veg beds. Finally seeing the true colours of the plants I’ve bought from various farm shops and fetes, as buds open. It’s made for interesting colour combinations. I’m happy. Next job is to keep them alive and well, and hopefully surviving to next year.

Anniversary

One last celebration. It was our wedding anniversary this week too. Twenty seven years. We’ll celebrate it this weekend, as the actual day was already taken with other events.

Definitely tired now. Lack of sleep is catching up on me, plus the muggy heat of the day. No time for a sneaky nap, as so much to do. Joining in with Anne’s word of the week link up. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend.

  1. What a beautiful way to start the day and mark the summer solstice.
Your garden looks amazing and full of beautiful colours.
Best of luck to your son with his exam results.
Happy anniversary, I hope you have a wonderful time celebrating this weekend once you’ve caught up on some sleep.

    1. Really was a great way to mark the solstice.
Thank you. We have our fingers crossed for his results.
I’m looking forward to bed time.

  2. What a wonderful week!
Having everyone home for the summer really is something to celebrate. What fun to watch the sunrise on Glastonbury Tor! Good job to the kids for finishing Uni and the A-levels!
    Your garden is beautiful!
Happy anniversary to you and your husband! x

  3. What a great way to celebrate the summer solstice. I bet there is quite a view on top of that hill.
Your flowers are beautiful, I love the colours at this time of the year.
Happy 27th wedding anniversary to you both and to many, many more!
I hope you all have a lovely summer together. x

  4. I went to Glastonbury Tor many many moons ago. It’s a popular place, but then I guess Glastonbury is going to be popular next weekend. I never made it to a festival. You’ve had lots of lovely celebrations this year. I’ve had to steer clear of Facebook this week as many of my friends on there I made during our pregnancies and their young adults are all leaving school, college and university and doing very well. It makes me so sad. I still have my youngest doing his mock exams (mostly this week) so maybe we will be celebrating next year. I never thought that when our babies were born mine would all have problems. The Little man does too, but he’s getting lots of help and he’s quite clever, so fingers crossed. After that essay from me I’d like to wish you a belated Happy Anniversary!

  5. Oh I am slightly jealous! How lovely to go to Glastonbury to see the sunrise, but it’s a bit far from me. I did join a livestream for one of the solstices once. Not quite the same but I enjoyed it. Belated Happy Anniversary, may you have many more. My kids have already left school and gone to local colleges, neither have exams, but I will send an offering to the Lego Gods for you to keep bricks out of the way of the examiners feet!

  6. What a gorgeous photo from watching the sun rise on the summer solstice and what a lovely thing to do. My husband went to Stonehenge for the solstice one year when we were at uni together – I chose sleep instead and afterwards wished I hadn’t! Congratulations to your eldest on finishing uni and to your youngest on finishing A Levels. Congratulations to you and your husband too on your anniversary. Lots of lovely things to celebrate. #WotW
