This weekend, I had a burning desire to make a needle felted dragon. With St David’s Day not far away, our season’s table could do with a red version.
He was fun to make. The shape formed quickly. The detail took time to decide on. I found myself picking him up, over the two days, just to add a little bit more. I knew the character that my dragon needed. Not scary or sci fi fantasy. More a gentle soul, who just happens to breathe fire and crunch on the ends of candlesticks. We’ve called him Norbet. Inspired by Hagrid’s dragon, from Harry Potter, although our Norbert is a far tamer chap to have around.
We are big fans of dragons and have more dragon books in the house than you could possibly shake a piece of string at, which just happens to be something else that some dragons like to eat.
Hardly surprising that each of the children has offered to provide a home for my little dragon. Or else suggested the colour of their own future fire breathing beastie when I get round to making it. Hmm. We will see.
In the meantime, this little welsh dragon, will be sitting on our seasons table, among the felt daffodils and leeks ready to celebrate St David’s Day on 1st March. I still have time to perfect my welsh cake recipe. (Any excuse!)
Bit late, but I’m linking up with Creative Mondays Blog Hop.
That’s brilliant, love it! I showed it to my son who thought it was very cute.
I’m glad you both like it. 🙂
He is wonderful!
Oh, thank you. I’m really quite fond of him. 🙂
