Happy Candlemas/ Imbolc Blessings

Happy Candlemas. Happy Inbolc. Happy February.

Snow gave us a perfect way to start the celebrations. Good excuse to get outside and create art.

Snow maiden made by 14 year old. It is almost as tall as her. She’s holding bird seed for the little birds. I hope they find it this morning. The snow maiden has been named Alice. Awesome to wonder how many times her molecules may have been made into a snow person or something else. Anywhere in the world.

I ticked “snowball snow lantern” off my list. I remember Moomintroll using snowballs to make snow lanterns and have been waiting to try it out. It really does work. I put a tea light in and it burnt all evening. Even with a slight breeze and minus temperature. Only thing missing was a Moomintroll.

More snow fun today, I’m sure.

Blessings to all.

How’s winter looking for you?

  1. Oh, I love the snow maiden! She’s very dignified. So, I guess the candle eventually goes out, or the snow melts and puts it out, and there’s no need to worry about fire? (yes I know snow is all around, but I don’t like fire and am unused to it.) 😯 It looks wonderful, anyway! 🙂

    1. She is a beaut! The candle in the lantern is a small tealight, in it’s own little metal dish. It basically burnt itself out once most of the wax had gone. The heat from the candle was not hot enough to melt the snowballs. One candle power! Once the sun went down, the snowballs froze and became very hard, making the structure strong. Unlikely to tumble, but if it did the snow would douse the flame. Apart from the badgers or deer, nothing else was likely to pass it. Well away from trees too and other structures, and the ground was damp or frozen, so pretty fire safe. Oops! That was probably a longer than explanation than you were looking for, but you got me thinking! I love how the snow reflects and refracts the light from the tiny flame to make it seem so much more.
