Finally

Seed head

It was my mistake. I really should know better. I tempted fate and lost the battle. On Wednesday afternoon, I dramatically threw myself down in the chair and breathed a loud and heart felt sigh of relief. Everything was finally coming together and I could relax. I should have known that was a mistake.

The week, running up to me slumping in the chair, was challenging. No one thing, but a host of little blighters that demanded my full attention. It didn’t help that our heating was off. That wasn’t our fault or through lack of planning ahead. We’d been let down by a company. Anyway, dealing with problems is always easier when you’re warm, I find, and it was perishing cold out, at the weekend.

Some problems stole time as I sorted them out, like this week’s mysterious case of the lost milk/breakfast delivery. How can that sap so much time? Plus the usual fun and games of a household of teenagers, where the spinning plates analogy is so true. (Also you’re lucky this is not being written in Mandarin today. Eldest teen changed my keyboard so that she could complete an exam using it and forgot to set it back.)

Hazel catkins

Before my battle with fate became an issue, this week has been a good week for ticking off to-do lists. After Middle Teen’s braces being fitted last week, I finally took Youngest Teen to his first Orthodontist appointment. He’s now set up to get braces soon too. I shall have two of them with mouth jewellery before long.

Home

My pantry/kitchen organising, from last week, took far more time at the weekend than I expected. Not so much doing, but planning. It’s going to be worth it and I can’t believe how it seems to have weirdly lifted everyone’s morale. I didn’t see that coming. This weekend, should finish the process.

Eldest Teen has finally finished her exams. They were online, so she made the most of home cooking. a handy washing machine and a freely available IT support team for any potential techy problems. She’s got a week off and then it’s back to Uni for her. I’ll miss her.

Finally finishing the second sock
About to turn the heel on the second sock in my January pair of socks.

Covid

Back to my unintended flinging of a gauntlet in fate’s general direction. After two years of being at least two steps away from catching Covid, it has finally reached our door. Youngest Teen developed a cough at school and tested as soon as he got home. I blame the relaxing of mask use in schools. He’s now isolating in his room with nothing worse than cold symptoms, and a new found love for room service.

That will teach me.

This weekend’s plans are slightly changed, so a good time to make marmalade , prepare vegetable beds and finish off my cupboard organising. I hope. Might bake a cake and celebrate an even dozen years of blogging, which happened this week too. Go me!

  1. I know the feeling, we managed so long without catching Covid too, but it got to us in the end. Not all of us thankfully. At least we know how strong we are against it now. I hope all is well again soon and that slump in the chair can last a bit longer.

  2. So far – touch wood – we have escaped the dreaded Lurgy despite there being a positive case in Madam’s class. Glad your son is not too bad with it, and that next week is better.

  3. Oh no! I am so sorry Covid has invaded your home. I hope your youngest teen is feeling OK and makes a speedy recovery. My youngest came home from school today and told us 2 of her closest friends are home with the virus and a few others in her class too. I think it’s just a matter of time before it arrives here x

  4. What a full-on week and I can imagine the relief of getting things sorted but sorry that it ended up tempting fate and that Covid has hit. Hope Youngest Teen is better soon and that your house is soon a Covid-free zone again. Having the heating off sounds like a nightmare โ€“ hope itโ€™s all sorted now and youโ€™re warm again. The keyboard being set to Mandarin made me smile although I can imagine it was a bit annoying for you and hopefully was easy enough to set back to English! Glad your Eldest Teen has finished her exams โ€“ hope they all went well. #WotW

  5. Oh, the spinning plates – I often think of them, and am old enough to remember the guy spinning them on the Ed Sullivan Show. Happy blogging anniversary! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Ah. Thank you. You’ve got me thinking. I’m not sure I’ve seen anyone performing plate spinning for decades, but it was fascinating to watch. ๐Ÿ˜€

  6. Oh, your week sounds like mine! We too had a nightmare with a fuel company delivering our kerosene way past the expected date. Needless to say, I won’t be using them again.
Sorry to hear Covid has landed at yours. I’m glad that your boy isn’t suffering with it. Room service sounds quite a treat though! Haha.
Happy blogging anniversary to you, love that I found your blog in this wonderful bloggy universe. Have a lovely weekend. x
