Bags from comics

It’s the school fete, this weekend. A good friend volunteered for us both to help with the craft activity stall. How well she knows me.

The activities were settled on quickly. Deciding on the prices was unsurprisingly difficult. Take the cost of the materials, how much people will pay, and don’t forget that it all needs to result in a profit.

Discussions about how long the ribbon should be, took time. It should be long enough to tie, but too long, and the profit diminishes. Maximize product appeal, while reducing the material costs. On top of it, none of us wanted to compromise the quality. It is a fine art that I seldom have to contemplate.

Each of us returned to our homes with a list of things to do. The concept of adding appeal, without raising cost, was still buzzing through my head. It occurred to me that I could add a little bit more appeal, if I made bags out of my collection of old comics. Solving two problems with one stone. I declutter, in a creative way, and product appeal increases. Plus, a happy husband, who finds my squirreling habit to be my least appealing attribute.

So the comic bags went into production. They are strong enough to hold the craft, but not to be overloaded. BL decided that she wanted to help. I would find her in odd minutes, adding to our box of bags.

My idea is that if they make more than one product, people can choose a bag to carry their goodies home in. Partly hoping that it will encourage people to make more than one. We’ll see.
