I’ve been making good progress on my latest hexagon patchwork. Out of the 39 patchwork flowers I need to make, I’ve completed 24. Most of the hexis were ready to use. Some had to be cut out of half made patchworks, that I had abandoned. Some had to be cut out and made.
I took a short cut making the new ones. When I made my original hexis, I took months to tack the fabric on to the paper template. This time, I’m using a special glue. Much quicker. I’ve used it before. When the hexi is sewn in, the paper template pulls out cleanly.
All the fabric, so far, is either recycled, or left over from dressmaking projects.
Linking up to #AlphabetPhoto over at PodCast. Today my P is patchwork.
(First time I’ve used my tripod with the delayed shutter release. My chance to be behind my camera and in front of it at the same time.)
With the days getting shorter and colder I am tempted to get the bag of scraps out and start a quilting project. It’s been a few years since I’ve made one… I’m feeling the inclination to do it again. Yours will be so lovely once it’s finished – this is a technique I’ve never tried before. Lovely!
Break out the scraps, I say. Hope you do make a start.
Looks great! Can’t wait to see the finished project 🙂 #alphabetphoto
Hoping to finish it before the end of the year. Fingers crossed.
I love patchwork but it does take a long time to complete 😛 #alphabetphoto
Not a quick job. Especially when doing it by hand, but I do like doing it. 🙂
I love this! I had no idea you could cut bits of paper and do patchwork like this!!
…Yes I am that silly!!
All of a sudden I may be able to move beyond squares 😉
Thanks!

Its called english paper piecing. My favourite way to hand sew patchwork.
Again I remember doing this in school and the photo just brings back so much good childhood memories! Almost all of my better memories happened in school =) #alphabetphoto
I think I learnt it at school too. We made pincushions. I’d forgotten! I wonder where it is now!
I remember my granny sitting doing this. Although it is slow it produces the most beautiful patchwork when completed so it is worth all the effort 🙂
It is worth the effort. Also a great slow-living activity.
Love patchworks! Now if only I had your talent, I’d be a happy woman 😉
Not sure about talent! I find it a great way to unwind.
Sure that is going to look lovely. I took part in a group patchwork project for our Childrens Centre a couple of years ago – so wonderful, I really enjoyed it. #alphabetphoto
Love the idea of a group getting together and creating a quilt. Especially for a good cause. I bet it looked fabulous.
Oh wow that’s amazing, it’s going to look fantastic when it’s all done. I wish I could do things like this, broke my wrist a couple of years ago so it’s rubbish with fiddly things. I will look out for your masterpiece though! Thanks for sharing with #alphabetphoto
Something very relaxing about making all the little stitches. I could probably finish it in a few evenings if I used the machine, but I love spending time doing it.
I wish I had the skill and patience for projects like this, sewing of any kind is not my strong point!
Apologies for late comment, busy week, but catching up now! #alphabetphoto
I love sewing, but if I thought about this project in its entirety, I’m not sure I’d even make a start. Small elephant bites is the secret…once you’ve decided on the plan!
