Bit late with my maypole cake, but nobody turned down a slice, based on it being a day late. Shh. I think I got away with it.
Middle daughter helped me decorate the cake after school. While she filled me in on her day, we rolled out fondant icing and modelled it into simple flowers.
There wasn’t quite enough green, so we got creative. We could have gone for a neat circle in the middle, but instead we went for something more realistic. Patches of earth showing through the grass. A play area in regular use. Maybe. (Can you tell there is more to that story than I’m letting on?)
As for the jelly babies, I have been pondering their shape, since I used them on last year’s cake. I’m sure jelly babies have become bigger and less defined. This year I decided to take action. My jelly babies have slimmed down and now look more like little people. I’ll spare you the details, as it involves a pair of sharp scissors and a spoonful of icing sugar. Best left unsaid, I’m sure you will agree.
I think they look like they could skip around the pole unlike last year’s jelly dancers.
And now for the real thing. I’ve blurred the video to hide identities. Enjoy the traditional dancing and the music.
Very Yummy and very pretty (respectively !) :o)
The cake did not last long. They never do. 🙂
Aww, this cake reminds me of a happy childhood maypole dancing for my school.
