Lovely crafty swap

Earlier this year, Maureen and I arranged to do a crafty swap. Maureen kindly said that she would like one of my dollshouse dolls, after seeing the Princess and the Pea doll that I made for my niece. I fell in love with her Toadstool houses. I could see it on our nature table, surrounded by seeds and nuts.

Last week, our Toadstool house arrived from Canada. And it is beautiful. The children are thrilled. It has been lovely to watch them play with it. I did um and ah about keeping it for Christmas, as a surprise, but it is such perfect timing for the beginning of Autumn that I think now is the best time for them to have it. Too late now, they are enjoying it.

Look at the tiny perfect stitches. Each edge, each spot, has been lovingly stitched on using tiny stitches. Like tiny little mouse stitches. How beautiful and time consuming.

As if that was not enough, Maureen even included a gnome for each of the children. In their favourite colours. Oh, so, so thoughtful. Already these have become prized possessions. Their imaginations are firing. Stories played out. The gnomes have hopped in and out of the toadstool house so many times. Names have been given. The children have been admiring this style of gnome for a while.

Our postman was impressed by the package and the drawing. How much more fun letters would be, if all senders drew a fun picture on the envelope.  Including bills. In fact, definitely bills. I am inspired to jazz up the front of  my parcels from now on.

And talking of my parcel….

…here she is. Each time I make one of these dolls, they change slightly. Colouring and clothing. I could not make the same doll more than once. I will probably stop making these dolls when I make the perfect one.

I gave her a strawberry skirt, red jumper, pink shoes and lacey bloomers. She has one of my fruit inspired hats. I made a fimo ladybird, sitting on a leaf, as a pet for the doll. For company. Hey, its a long way to Canada.

Before she left, the doll exchanged gifts with Fixing Pixie. She gave him a strawberry hat and he gave her a lavender pillow for the journey.  She is now in Canada and is the furthest travelled of my dolls.

So an enormous thank you, Maureen. It has been a fun swap. You have brightened up our day. You are a truly creative mama.

    1. Thanks Daisy. As ever, its fitting it all in, time wise! I’m glad mine have all reached the stage when they bring any dropped pins to me and enjoy watching what I’m doing. The crawling stage stopped me sewing, almost completely.

    1. Thanks Rebecca. It was good fun, so I shall be swapping again in the future. I’m going to concentrate on Christmas and Birthdays at the moment. We have a lot of birthdays in the last quarter of the year!

    1. The children are still enjoying playing with the gnomes. I’ve moved the nature table, so it is more at everyone’s height and a larger area. Loved doing this swap. I hope your girls get as much enjoyment from the doll as my crowd are getting from your addition to our nature table. Big “thank you” to you!
