There goes another week. An oddly dissatisfying week, where nothing sat quite right, but it’s ending on a humdinger of a high note, so not all is lost. Yey!
I can hear the gentle playing of a guitar from upstairs and the hound noisily dreaming in the next room to me. The other two children have found something to laugh about. Lessons have ended for the day. Weekend at last.
I worked last weekend to catch up, so I’m really ready for a relaxing two days. I wasn’t alone. As I sent out emails, on Sunday morning, I was receiving replies from clients. Seems I wasn’t the only one trying to juggle everything.
School
Anyway, I took Monday off to spend the day with Youngest who had an off-timetable day in aid of Children’s Mental Health week. They had lots of creative activities to take part in. He chose a few projects and I acted as the facility manager. The bringer of craft materials and space to create in.
One involved animation, which we’ll finish this weekend and another was a short story of no more than 500 words. Both fun, but the story probably stole the day for me. We bounced ideas off each other and wrote our own versions. If only they were accepting entries from parents too.
We had another speedy online Parent’s evening. This time for Middle Teen. She is doing well, which is expected. Even surprised by a little dance of joy from her Physics teacher, so that was different. It was difficult to ask the questions I usually ask. Not sure if it was the tech, time limit or exam uncertainty, throwing me. Anyway we got some answers.
(He’s a bit miffed that I haven’t fed him any of the chicken I’ve been cooking yet)
Watching
I’ve made progress knitting my stash busting blanket, while watching TV in the evenings. We watched “The Dig” as a family and all thoroughly enjoyed it. What a fabulous film. The adults binge watched “The Winx Saga” which is a good magical YA story and moved on to the Superstore, for a light change. Definitely daft.
Nature
We saw our first hares of the season. Not far from the fox den last week, we spotted a hare tearing away from us. Soon after, we saw another casually lollop away from us. They look and move so differently from rabbits. When we came back, we could see it doing the characteristic sniffing of the ground, in search of its potential mate. We’d obviously disturbed a tête-à-tête between the pair.
Also spotted the first primroses in the hedgerow. Lesser spotted celandines have already been trying their luck in the changeable weather.
Smile
I made clementine flavoured marzipan muffins (photo at top), which were delicious and I’m tempted to write up the recipe. There was quite a competition for the last two cakes, which I’ll take as a good sign.
Oh, almost forgot to include the humdinger of an up note for the week. Eldest received her first reply from a university and it is an acceptance, so she’s definitely going to study language at uni in September. Good job as none of us wanted to even think about Plan B. We need to wait for the other four universities to reply, which may take some time.
So that’s my week. Bit of a hotchpotch. I need to do something creative this weekend.
Joining in with Anne’s word of the week linky.
congratulations to your daughter on her university acceptance, great news! I love the photo of Hero, he really does look comfy. Your muffins look amazing, I’d love a recipe, but I’m the only one who likes marzipan…maybe I can have them all to myself!
Thank you. They are delicious. It feels like a big step forward. The muffins are delicious, but you’d have to like marzipan. Whole batch for you then!
Madam says Hero is “Cuuuuute!” he is a lovely looking dog, very comfy sitting there 🙂 How nice to have a day of school with no screens involved. Those muffins look delicious
He can make himself look very comfortable. He did get some chicken in the end. A screen free day was pretty good. I hope they do it again.
I love the word ‘hotchpotch’ – such a good one to describe your week. Doing creative activities and having an off-timetable day sounds like fun. How lovely to spot some primroses and see hares. I don’t think I’ve ever seen any in the wild. Those muffins look amazing. #WotW
Congratulations on the university placement. What an adventure to be starting. I want to watch The Dig so I will have to add it to the list. I love the look of the muffins. I have so many emails to reply to. I keep thinking I will start them when up at 6 am but I just haven’t got the drive at the moment! #WotW
