It has been a colourful week, which feels novel for January. We woke up one morning to a beautiful display of reds and oranges. A nice change from the pea soup fog on other days, this week, that blocked out everything more than 20 meters away. The bright colour was light relief. I took my camera out and spent some time photographing the changing sky, before rushing in to finish organising breakfast. It was worth it.
Dying hair
Not to be outdone, my daughters organised hair appointments, in readiness for heading back to uni. They both had a trim and dyed their locks. First time for Eldest. It’s a whole new experience for me as I’ve never contemplated adding colour to my hair, which made me no help at all. At least they have each other to bounce ideas off.
Book and Backgammon
I started relearning how to play Backgammon. Amazing how easy you forget. When I was a teen, I spent a few weeks every summer in France, visiting my French friend and we would play scrabble, cards and backgammon, some evenings. Not sure if I was ever good, but it was fun. She is one of the few childhood friends that I kept in touch with over the years. I think we just got each other. Both moved around a lot and both the youngest from big families. We navigated the teen years together and on to adulthood.
I was meant to visit her two summers ago, but life has a way of changing plans and then it was too late. She died last year. I’ll miss the phone calls and messages, but I probably regret most not playing one last game.
Anyway, I’m learning backgammon again. It’s reminded me how much I enjoy board games. While gift shopping in Waterstones, Youngest and I spotted this colour – full book. The first chapter is about Backgammon and other Middle Eastern games. The author was taught to play by a Bedouin in the desert. I’m not sure the book is giving me much insight into a winning strategy, but it is an interesting read.
Socks
Almost finished my first sock of the year. One of the great things about knitting your own socks is that you can mix and match colour. These ones feel straight out of a child’s picture book and I’m looking forward to seeing them on a pair of feet.
Joining in with Anne’s word of the week linky. Hope you have all had a good week.
The girl’s hair looks amazing, what lovely colours! I have used dye a few times over the years but am completely natural now and am letting it turn as grey or white as it wants.
I’m sorry you didn’t get to have that one last game with your friend, what lovely memories you have though.
The socks look very cosy and warm, perfect for this weather.
I’m not sure I’ll finish the other sock soon enough for the cold weather at the rate I’m going, but we’ll see.
It’s nice to see a bit of colour, especially at this time of year! What a beautiful sunrise and I love your girls hair!
I love playing Backgammon and used to play online with random players around the world but the website is long gone!
Those socks are fab! I do love the colours that you have used. x
I’m using an app to practise Backgammon, but not against people. Maybe one day.
Never played that game before but I love your colour full week. So sorry about your friend. The girls’ hair looks great, too, and it’s nice that they have each other for support and to bounce ideas.
