Joining in Ginny’s Yarn Along this week. I can’t believe how fast it comes round.
After finishing my Gansey Socks, I decided to pick up a WIP sock project. I put this project down a year or two ago. Partly because 4 ply was just taking too long. I love the colours which are more vibrant than the photo suggests. It is so long that I’m not sure if this is a second sock or if I need to search around for the other ball of wool. I’ve reached the heel flap stage, which means only two dpns at the moment, but I am knitting the sock on dpns. This project is just to fill a gap while I wait for the postman to bring some more wool for my new project, so the socks will be going back on to my WIP pile soon.
I picked up a copy of “The Help” after reading Debbie raving about it. I’m enjoying itΒ (Thanks Debbie). I’m sure I’m missing some of the nuances. I’m reading the part written by the maid and it is written as she would talk. What with reading BFG by Roald Dalh to BL at night and reading this, my language is taking on a whole new vocab and set ofΒ grammar. Hope I still make sense.
As a side note, I am really enjoying everyone’s comments on my giveaway. I’m not commenting on there as it makes the counting easier later and I don’t want to accidentally choose myself! It is open to all, which includes our friends over in the US and its OK if the winner keeps them for themselves. Why not? I would be honoured. The giveaway is still open, so if you’d like a chance to receive these socks, leave a comment on the giveaway post here.
Don’t forget to check out all the other book recommendations and knitting projects with those over at Ginny’s who may just be a little more committed to their current knitting project than me.
lovely stripes! hey thank you for what you said over on my post.. i have done just the same. the fear that i cant do something i want because the instructions are online..crazy.
my mom saw that movie, i’d love to read the help !
xx
I’m really enjoying the book. Makes a good change. Just wish I could sit and read more. I think it is going to take me ages to finish it! Have to cut down on unnecessary online research.
Oh I love those stripey socks! One of the reasons that I wanted to learn to knit was so that I could make myself warm, interesting winter tights…if those were a bit longer, they’d be just want I’ve had in mind (pity I haven’t the courage to try socks & suspect knitting up leg-length tights would do me in! π )
You should try knitting socks. Easier than you think. Although I’d try thicker yarn on the first pair so you’re not put off. If the dpns put you off, there are patterns for two needles. I must have knitted over 20 pairs by now! If I costed out my time, the socks would be laughably expensive, but nothing beats handmade!
The Help is waiting patiently on my bookshelf, just waiting for me to read. Glad you enjoyed it. π
I now have an image of a mini maid sitting on your shelf. Just waiting! Hope you enjoy it soon, too! I wish I could just sit down and read the whole book, but the rest of life just keeps on getting in the way!
You are definitely my sock inspritation! These too are fabulous… So glad you are enjoying the book. I’m going to see the movie again tomorrow night. This will be the third time. It’s not that I think that I need to see it 3 times, it’s just such a terrific chick flick that I keep getting invited by friends who haven’t seen it yet. I love spending time with friends so off I go! I’m actually getting my first pedicure too. I’ve been watching said friend’s daughter a bit after school for her and this is her thank you. There will be 4 of us lined up in massage chairs while our tootsies are prettied up, then off to the theater! Quite a day, huh?
Blessings, Debbie

Oh. That sounds like a most wonderful day. A flick, friends and pampering. I hope you enjoy it. They’ve had the premiere here, but it hasn’t been released nationally yet. Maybe I should get a few friends together to see it. Must finish the book first……
Love the colour of the socks. So pleased there’s another knitter who has an emergency pair of socks to turn to for when they’re waiting for inspiration to strike/new yarn to arrive/long car journeys etc. I always have a pair at the bottom of the pile for such times. Currently just starting the second of a lace patterned pair that I started just on a year ago π
xx
Oh, I need to have a WIP, sitting in the wings, just for that occasion. Pick up and go. I don’t need to think about it, as I can just pick up where I left off. Socks are small enough to take most places, as well. Nice to know others do the same. π Like the sound of your lacey socks.
loving that yarn, book sounds good too, will take a look for it at the library xx
Hope you find it at the library. Worth reading for sure. π
Love the colours of that sockie up the top. Would love to read that book too.
This pair is for my husband. I can’t even remember if he chose the wool or me, but I’m enjoying the colours too, just not the ply!
lol…yeah. i started talking as if i was from way down south too when i read the help. it actually helped get the dogs fed, cause the kids thought it was funny when i talked like that! i pretended i was a southern dog talking about how hungray i was….whatever works!
enjoy, and i hope you find the other sock…or the other ball of yarn…totally a predicament i would get myself into.

It really is catchy that accent! Loving the book. I’m taking it out and about with me. Eldest teases me as its always in the car when I go to pick her up. I might try the “feed the dog” trick. π
I enjoyed that book…grew up in Detroit in the 60’s and it’s tough to think that things were so different in the south! Enjoyed the book!
Certainly an interesting book! I’d love to see the film when it is released here.
lol. The bfg is tough.
I find its fun to read, but I have a tendency to continue phrasing just like BFG afterwards. Even in my head!! π
