Yarn Along- Stripey mittens

Joining in Ginny’s Yarn Along. A book and what’s on my needles.

Book wise, I’m still in the children’s section. I’ve finished Moominland Midwinter. I can thoroughly recommend it. AJ and I have chatted about it so much that even my husband is tempted to read it. I found another one in the series and am waiting for AJ to finish it. In the mean time, I’m reading another Diana Wynne Jones. I loved Howl’s Moving Castle and was curious about her other books. I found Charmed Life in the library.

Knitting. All three pairs of flip top mittens are finished. Just in time for the cold snap we’re due this week. The children skipped happily to school wearing them today. Not before I made sure that each mitten had a nametape sewn securely in. I love the pattern and want to knit a few more pairs. Maybe some presents to put aside. I’d like to knit some without the flap. Stripey fingerless gloves would be useful too. Very satisfying making them from my odds-and-ends wool stash. Practical, thrifty and fun.

I decided to knit a R and L on each of the flaps for TF. Maybe it will help him to learn his left and right. We’ll see.

More knitting and books to be found at Ginny’s.

  1. Look at how disciplined you are, knitting all of those pairs! Of course, they are wonderful, and each pair is so unique that it’s actually probably pretty darn hard to stop. Which you’re not. Yay! I LOVE the L and R idea. Clever, you.

  2. All of your mittens look fabulous! Good thinking to put name tags in them so if lost they can find their way back.
We haven’t read any of Diana Jones books before , but I think my son would really enjoy her.
    Happy Yarn Along!

    1. They are so unique that I think they might have been found, but I wasn’t going to leave it to chance. Least I could knit a replacement. 🙂

    1. Not too bad. Youngest struggles with one finger in each hole, but the flaps seem to work for all three children. In fact BL was able to put her thumb under the flap as well. I tested them on me and, even though the gloves are snug on me, the flap are still easy to flap!

    1. TF loves his mittens. Still trying to master putting only one finger in each finger hole. Doesn’t help that he insisted on having the same size gloves as his sisters. 🙂

  3. We love Moominland in winter here too 🙂
I love the animated film Howl’s Moving Castle, so I guess I have to check out the book as well. I doubt it is translated to norwegian as my daughter would have loved to read it too..
    Have a great weekend!
