Time for Ginny’s Yarn Along again. A book and what’s on your needles. This week I’m showing the knitting that has just fallen off my needles. It is the Cornish wool socks that I started whilst down in Cornwall, using the local wool. They fit my husband’s feet perfectly. Only part I would change is using a smaller needle for the ribbing at the top, but as these are boot socks they should be fine. First time I have knitted socks on two needles and I will be doing these again. So quick and easy. I do love knitting socks when I’m travelling.
I’m reading two books at the moment. I’m still dipping into the Cornish Legends. Short stories which can be read in those odd moments. Usually before I fall asleep. Also I thought I’d share a craft book that I’m enjoying. Natural dyeing wool and silk is a new project for me. I’m learning how different mordants can change the colour completely. I have my first project set up. Just looking for enough time.
Thought I’d share this last picture. Someone left the lid off the chicken food yesterday. A greedy little mouse made the most of it and hopped on in. Obviously a rather sweet mouse and not the sharpest of rodents, as it had not thought through how it was going to escape. Eating lots and gnawing cardboard did not help.
I’m sorry to say, that it was not the politest mouse. For it did bite the hand that set it free.
Well might you hide, Little Mouse. I’m pretty sure I know what Beatrix Potter would have said.
For more yarns and yarns, pop over to Ginny’s.
Your socks are excellent! They look great.
Silly little mouse — hope you don’t see him again!
I think the mouse was thoroughly fed up after the crowd of children and cameras. I’ve made sure the lid is on tonight.
The socks came out really well, they look lovely and cosy, I have about half a sock to finish and then the sewing up………hope mine look as neatly finished as yours. The Cornish Legends book looks an interesting read………..not so keen on the mouse though.

I love knitting this pattern. The sewing up wasn’t too bad and I was pleased that there were no hard seams. I’m going to be doing this pattern again.
What will your first project be in the dyeing realm? Knitting socks on 2 needles – I’ll have to look at that pattern. Thanks.
I’ve been growing woad. I have some alpaca and silk that are first on my list. Just need time and a bit of confidence to go for it.
😯 I would have flipped out if I saw the mouse. I am deathly afraid of rodents. Eww!
I’m so sorry it bit you. 🙁
Not me, but the other half. He’s fine. I’m surprised that we’ve not found one in there before, despite my best efforts to make sure the lid is left on. Really was a sweet little wood mouse. Although I wasn’t keen on being the one to pick it up!
Gorgeous socks! And done on 2 needles…probably the only socks I’ll be knitting for a while (dpn & I are not friends). I’ll have to see if I can order that pattern…so yummy! And what an adorable little mouse! But it bit you??? Naughty. Naughty. Hope you’re OK!
I may never have tried dpns if I had discovered this pattern first! I still like dpns. About to use a set for my next project.
Oh I’m fine. It was my husband that the mouse took a bite out of. They will both live to tell the tale!
I’m sure I’ll get over my fear of dpn one day ;-). Just wanted to let you know that I gave you The Versatile Blogger Award today…head over to my place to see what you’ve won! 😉
Lovely socks and the dyeing book is a gem, I have one of her books and another natural dyeing book written by a friend of mine.
I have a sock project on the go at the moment with some handspun yarn, trialling a different way to make them and it’s going well, I may have fallen in love with sock knitting again – will share on the blog sometime soon.
I am longing to spin sock yarn, but I need a lot more practise. New method sounds interesting. Look forward to seeing your project.
I love the socks… and I love that you know just what Beatrix Potter would have said! You are so my kinda gal!
Blessings, Debbie
I wanted to draw and write just like her when I was younger. In fact now I’m older, I wouldn’t mind having a flock of herdwicks (sheep) just like her.
I’ve never tried socks….glad to hear these are nice and easy! I should take a look at the pattern. I do love the color of the yarn….very manly!
The first proper item I knitted was in neutral, so I have a bit of a soft spot for it. These chunky socks are definitely manly!
Your posts are always filled with beauty and life. I especially liked the outdoor photos. They make me feel like I’m there, too. The mouse is cute. He looks just like one that got stuck in a stoneware crock at work. It was such a tiny baby that it didn’t bite when I set it free. The wool socks are nice. I can’t believe that it’s almost time to start thinking about wool socks again.
You better believe it! Cosy toes on an Autumn morning are a must. I’m glad you found your mouse to release it.
what lovely socks, they look very cozy and warm. i’ve never tried them on two needles before, but i do like dpn’s. you’ve inspired me to make a pair soon.
cute mouse! sorry he bit your husband, he was probably afraid? (not your husband, the mouse).
I’m sure the mouse was terrified. I’m sure it is giving our shed a wide berth at the moment. I’ve always used dpns, but I will be using this pattern again in the near future. My daughters have already chosen the style they would like!
Hello
I am loving your gansey sock pattern. How can I get it?
Thanks
