Ah Wednesday! Books and Yarn. It’s that time again. Ginny’s Yarn-Along.
I am reading another in the Diana Wynne Jones series, although I have to admit my copy of Hard Times has had less of my time. Something had to give, with all the patchworking I’m doing at the moment. AJ and I went to the library on Saturday and picked up our reserved books. While there we selected a few more books. I remember Green Crafts for children being publicized absolutely everywhere. We’ve spotted a few projects that were new to us and we would like to do. I’ve seen a lot of the projects elsewhere, which is disappointing. Also picked up a copy of Brian Cox book. Fascinating and needs quiet time to read.
One more square finished for my knitted patchwork blanket and I’m onto the next. Umming and ahhing about how many squares I want to make. Weighing up potential coverage against washing practicalities. Maybe I should lay the squares out and see how it looks.

Well now, you are making me want to make a blanket! I haven’t made one in years. It’s a great way to put a dent in all of the left over stash yarn though. Love the color of your yarn!!
This is my first blanket. Gradually going through suitable wool in my stash, but I think it should be enough for this project. I’m looking forward to having it finished and a large dent in my wool stash. I love this current wool. We’ve used it for doll’s hair and toy cows. A real favourite.
I’m wondering how many squares you’ll need for your knitted blanket………………….it’s something I’ve thought about making many times but the thought of sewing all those squares together has always put me off. That yarn looks so cosy, and I wouldn’t mind having a peek inside ‘Wonders of the solar system’……….it’s the type of book I always find fascinating. x
I think I will lay the squares out and see how it looks. I don’t want to make it too big and difficult to look after. Also wondering if the structure wouldn’t stand it. Hmm. I think the stitching will be a piece of cake after all the hexis I’ve done recently! 😀
Ah, washing blankets. Having just gotten through a flu virus over here, I can see why you’re hesitating to make something so huge that it’s hard to wash!
It will be so heavy to pick up wet if I make it too big, but I also want to make it a useful blanket. It will be trial and error in the end. Hope you are feeling better.
Oooh, the green crafts for children looks good, shall go off to Amazon and look for that in a mo. We loved Brian Cox, though quite honestly some (most) of his programme went right over my head! I love the night sky, but just don’t have enough room in my brain for all those facts!!
Also loving that felted ball hairclip, I want one!
We recorded the programmes so eldest could watch them, with the added advantage that I could rewind if I missed a bit. The green crafts book is good, but I think lots of the projects have been replicated in the meantime. Fun all the same. Glad you like the hairclip. It was fun to make.
A friend of mine made a knitted patchwork and I was immediately smitten. I don’t know why I haven’t made the time to start one!

Its one of those projects that can be fitted in between other bigger projects. Worth starting one. 🙂
I have always wanted to knit a blanket, but then figured it would take absolutely way too long to knit something so big. Why can’t I be smart enough to figure out a patchwork blanket?! Much more manageable! And a great way to use up leftover yarn. I think I might try that!
It is certainly going through my wool stash. Any consolation, I never thought of doing a one piece blanket!
