This week’s drop in temperature, sent us searching for hats, scarves and gloves. We have a big collection for the children to choose from, but BL could find no gloves to fit her. Hmm. At the same time, I remembered that The Children’s Year November Craft Along project is mittens.
Over the summer I have not joined in, so the mittens seemed a good way to get going with the craft along again. The pattern is very easy. I knitted these using merino wool from my stash. I added the white pompoms (in Patons snowflake) so that once the snow has thawed, BL still has a reminder of the snow.
The mittens work well in the snow, she tells me.
Snow is still with us.
No fresh snow today, but it is too cold to thaw. It is a lovely crunch underfoot. We read Ollie’s Ski Trip (We love the Mini Editions) today, which sparked some talk about Mrs Thaw. Judging by the forecast, it may be a few days before she arrives to tidy up.
In the meantime….
… someone …
… has painted our trees….
… GOLD!
I love those mittens…I really need to learn to knit!!!
Evie loses so many gloves it would be brilliant if I could just knit her a few pairs.
And wow your trees are stunning it really looks like someones attacked them with a huge can of gold spray paint!!
Em xxxx
I like making gloves and mittens for the children. That way if they loose one, hopefully I have enough wool to make a replacement. Although I do have one mitten set of three, as I jumped the gun once!
Cute, cute mittens! And wow, those gold highlights are just amazing!
BL loves her new mittens. She almost skipped into school this morning. Actually, she does that every day, but I think there was an extra bounce today!
How did you know I needed a mitten pattern today? you just saved me a whole lot of searching and wondering if the pattern I chose was going to work! Love the trees – they did it to ours a few weeks ago – stunning aren’t they! 😀
I waste so much time wondering if a knitting pattern is going to work. Too many mistakes in the past. This pattern is simple and only took me two evenings to complete.
What beauiful pictures! Those bronzed gold trees are simply amazing. And pompoms make everything cheerful. You’re a wonderful mother to your children. What happy memories they’ll have 🙂
The colour of the trees was such a contrast to the snow. A lovely sight at the end of the day. I hope it all adds to happy childhood memories. As for the mittens, BL is having fun with them. When I picked her up from school, she had swapped hands so that she could hold the “snowballs” in her hands. Thanks, Jodi.
Wow, stunning light. Your trees do look golden indeed! What a gift from Nature. I love the mittens and I bet the garter stitch make them even cozier. So lovely to see roses this time of the year, oh I miss the flowers year round in England!

It was almost like someone had been out with a gold spray can. Although I’m sure Nature does a far better job.
I wasn’t sure about the garter stitch at first. I hadn’t thought about it being more cosy, but you’re probably right. BL is as pleased as punch with them.
Love the colour of the mittens and the pompoms are great. The trees look amazing.
This is wool left over from a baby cardigan I made for my eldest. I washed the cardigan so much, that it eventually turned grey, which I guess will happen to these. I do love the white and lilac together.
love love love the mittens. The snow on the roses is beautiful, isn’t it?
I love the determination and hardiness of the rose. I doubt that this is the last of the roses for this year.
How beautiful!! Who wouldn’t adore those mittens? I love the pom-poms you added, so cute! 🙂
Thanks. I like the pompoms too. Not sure how white they will stay. So cold here at the moment, I’m glad she is keen to wear them.
Love the light…gosh that’s beautiful
The mittens look great ..the pompom makes them lot’s more fun :0)
I use a really (really) basic mitten pattern and knit the ladies size then throw them in a hot wash and they felt up a treat for thick kid mitts ..I think a pompom would make a nice addition as they’re rather plain.
I like the idea of knitting and then felting. It would make a warmer pair of mittens. I only had enough wool to make a child’s pair of mittens, but next time I might be tempted to resize the pattern.
the felting covers up the multitude of sins that is my knitting…I’m useless at the thumb join and not a very even knitter but it hides it all
Hey when you’re not too busy you’ll soon have a stash of homespun :0)
I am so looking forward to sitting down and getting on with my spinning. Judging by my first attempts, they may be more impressive knitted up and felted.
