Today AJ wanted to bake, but I was busy. So I told her she could, but she’d have to go it alone. So she did. She’s baked with others, but never by herself.
Her brownies turned out fantastic.
(Whisper: Just need to work on her tidying up afterwards! Forgiven as the brownies are yummy.)
Looks like she did a great job 🙂
Thanks. She was very pleased with them. I think she has the cooking “bug” now. She made us all pancakes this morning.
They do look yummy, hopefully the tidying up will come in time.
I hope so, but I am heartily glad she is interested in cooking.
Well done AJ.
And if she turns out to be a great cook I am sure she will always find willing helpers for the clearing up bit!
I’m sure you are right.
Lovely, it is amazing what a child can do, from watching her Mother. cheers Marie
She is a determined child, but loses heart if there is a hiccup. Means I need to encourage without letting her overstretch herself. I think this time I got the balance right. She did a brilliant job. Phew!
Cooking by themselves–it’s sort of a mile stone, isn’t it?
It should be, if it isn’t. Being able to feed yourself, even if it is brownies, has got to count.
Don’t you just love those moments. And, YUM, those brownies do look scrumptious. Makes me want to get in my kitchen and bake some for myself.
I love her enthusiasm. She has so many plans that I hope she acheives them all. The brownies were very good!
Hi Cheryl how old is aj? I have an 11 year old step son who is visiting for 7 weeks. He won’t do anything by himself. Nothing! Is this normal? My toddler plays by himself…, step child driving me nuts. Wish he would bake brownies !
AJ is eight in a few weeks time. They all like doing things for themselves. At the weekends they organise their own breakfasts, so I get a lie in. The one area they are not so keen on doing is tidying up, but I will break them eventually!
I guess we are all different. I’m a great believer in letting my lot get bored. As yet, this has not resulted in a tidy room (I’m not really obsessed), but they do have great fun making up their own games. It gives me valuable time to do my own thing and preserve my sanity. They grow and change so quickly, you might find this holiday easier. Failing that, you could always try leaving out the recipe book.
