Skirt to trousers

I know. Another pair of trousers. All I can say is that this pair is different.

You see, before they were another pair of trousers, they were one of my favourite skirts. I loved this chocolately brown, corduroy skirt. It was flattering and so easy to wear. That, of course was its downfall. I wore it until it ripped at the back split and some thinning patches. I could mend it, but it was not going to be the same. It lay in the bottom of my drawer waiting for a solution.

When all else fails, turn it into something else. Seems to be my motto at the moment. It seems like a nonsense to buy new trousers or go shopping for more fabric, when I have this old skirt hanging around. It can have at least one more life before it hits the recycling bin and gets turned into cleaning rags.

I used the same pattern as the knight and castle trousers. This time I added a bit more at the top and hem of the trousers.

I used the extra length in the legs to make turn-ups. I’m hoping I’ll be able to let them down as he grows. Shame ric-rac will not be an option to cover the crease, but I do have another plan.

For the pockets, I cut up an old dress that the girls loved, but have long since grown out of. It wasn’t very successful as a dress. The shoulder fastenings were always coming undone, so I couldn’t pass it on to anyone else without radical alteration. Far better as a pair of fun pockets.

TF is happy. My preloved fabric pile is slightly smaller. Plus they took very little time to make. Less than a trip to the shops.

And just because we still have snow…..

Spot the lovely fluffy white cushions on our garden seats. The umbrella has been out there so long that it no longer comes out easily. It still works. Well, it did the last time we had sun to shade from. I wonder what I could make that into……

Children are back at school today. I promised them they could help choose the winner of the photo bags, so I need to wait until they are home again. Hope to post the winner tomorrow.
