A few months ago, I bought AJ a packet of seeds. Hoping to feed her new found love for gardening. The name of the seeds combined two of her interests, so I was sure that it would inspire her. She sowed them in her butterfly garden. And waited. Everything else came up and I feared that these little seeds were duds.
Earlier last week I spotted the plants. We saw that one bud was about to open.
The next day…
… the Ladybird Poppy opened. And its neighbour. Aren’t they beautiful?
Not just two of them.
Lots of them.
Her garden is really blooming. I realise that I spend most of my gardening time on the fruit and vegetable part of my garden. The flowers are left to their own devises. Sink and swim mainly. AJ’s interest in her butterfly garden really is adding interest to our garden. I hope her interest will continue to add some much needed colour and variety.
The middle part of the poppies look like it’s handmade. I can almost see the stitches. Or maybe its like a little, iced cake.
Oh these are BEAUTIFUL! We totally neglected our gardens this year, and I am regretting it, especially after seeing your beauties. And I love the idea of each child having their own garden. A definite on my to-do list for next summer.
AJ has been asking me for the last two years for a plot, so I’m glad I finally got round to setting aside an area for her. She loves it.
Stunning those poppies…
I too tend to focus on food in the garden, well and herbs, love the herbs and flowers with medicinal uses, yet flowers add so much to a garden, you are very fortunate to have such a devoted helper
🙂 Christina
Its lovely to have her ideas and take on gardening.
Gorgeous pictures, and those are definitely going on the wish list for next year!
The seeds are from the Thompson and Morgan Garden Explorer range. I’m going to try and collect the seeds, but as we have other poppies in the garden I’m not sure they will grow true again.
how beautiful like paper lady-bugs in the garden!
I might try making these out of paper, just for fun. They look almost unreal.
They are magnificent poppies, they really do live up to their name.
Somebody has had fun cultivating these seeds. They are just as they are pictured on the packet.
Thanks for the soap link. I just adore poppies and get excited when they bloom…but oh so short a time!
I’m enjoying them while they last.
They are lovely. We have the big poppies and orange Californian varieties but I may just have to pinch this idea!
I’m really pleased with them. I hope they seed the same next year.
