I like to think that I am good at making things. I can use a whole host of methods to fashion pretty, as well as quirky pieces. Then sometimes, I pick up a bit of nature and realise, I have a long way to go.
This piece of wood was left over from a wood project in the garden, this weekend. As I helped to clear away the offcuts, ready for the wood pile, I knew I couldn’t add this one. I see a wood sprite looking back. The eyes are knots in the wood, but they seem to glow as if chalk or charcoals have been worked into the surface. They haven’t. This is exactly as it was cut. The nose is part of the grain too. The style reminds me of something, but I can’t quite place it. Maybe a Chris Riddell sketch. Maybe something older.
What do you think?
I’m not very crafty or artistic but I also saw the sprite before I’d even read your post! What do you think you’ll do with it?
He’s sitting in my potting shed, looking out of the window at the moment. I suspect he will move around.
I saw that face right away too. How fantastic, looking forward to seeing what you do with it!
I’m tempted to do nothing with him. I’m not sure I could improve him. He is sitting in the potting shed. Warding off, I think!
The style reminds me of Chad over the garden wall
Ah! I see what you mean. Just needs a “Wot no bananas”
