This week has been lavender themed. All my posts this week have contained a sprig or two.Β The weekend saw us heading out to our local lavender farm. I feel very fortunate to have a farm so near by. A visit never passes without a walk around the field, or running several times round for the children, followed with plant buying and lavender ice cream.
The lavender was buzzing with pollinators. All the children took great delight pointing out the different insects to me. They are learning fast, but I can still name some new ones for them.
It is a lovely setting. The gentle breeze over the field, brings the most wonderful scent.
In keeping with the theme, later in the week, we started our own lavender harvest. We’ve added quite a few lavender plants to our collection over the years, now dotted around the garden. I’m trying to develop a lavender lined path to our front door.
Unfortunately, the pup has other ideas, so the plants are protected by metal frame at the moment, until they are established. Not pretty, but it means we have lavender to harvest.
Each year, we make a fresh batch of lavender wands. Ready to scent our drawers. Harvesting and preserving lavender is part of the rhythm of our year.
After a brief reminder, the girls made a wand each. This will be the first two of many for the year. (step by step instructions here)
Only two made today as it was sports day. They should be tired out, but sports activities always seem to give them more energy. They needed to cycle it off. Even in the drizzle, they were out doing circuits in the garden. Up and down the meadow, and around the drive.
I’m glad they have room to do this in the garden without competing with the commuters down our narrow lane.
Must buy some more thin ribbon over the weekend.

How lovely, I adore lavender, and those fields just look amazing. Love the lavender wands too, such a gorgeous scent.
I’m living in the wrong era. Apparently there were a lot more fields of lavender back in the Victorian years. Can you imagine!
It looks so beautiful there. I was only looking a couple of days ago to find a farm near us, but our nearest isn’t that near! Glad you’re making the most of yours x
Hopefully there will be more lavender fields popping up. Well worth a visit.
Wow, that lavender looks amazing and such beautiful images. Your children are so lucky to have such a space around them and it looks like they make the most of it too. The lavender wands are a fab idea π
I do feel blessed being to pop over to the lavender farm when I feel like it. Not quite on our doorstop, but not a long car journey.
Wow, I bet that smells so gorgeous! I love the smell of lavender. Those wands look fab and what a great idea to use them to scent draws! Excellent. #countrykids
I love the scent of lavender too. Depending on which side of the field we were on, the scent was stronger with the wind in our direction. Could have sat down just to enjoy lavender scented breeze.
How lovely having a lavender farm so close by! This is such a clever little idea for drawer fresheners – my past attempts have always ended up with lavender going everywhere when it dries – something this idea gets around completely!
Been there with stray lavender petals in drawers and in the folds of sheets. This method does minimize the loss. Need to be neat and on the side of tight!
awww how utterly amazing that you are so close to a lavender farm!! its my fave π π
We are lucky!
Beautiful lavender fields and such a great idea to make your own lavender wands too! I hope the sports day went well and thanks for linking up and sharing the fun with Country Kids.
I can’t imagine not making these each year. Children love to make them and use them. Sports day went well, with both of them winning races. Thanks for hosting.
Those lavender wands are amazing, love them. We have a lavender farm in our area, I have never been, but your photos make me want to make time to visit. Hope you are enjoying your weekend.
Such a beautiful colour. The sight and fragrance is fabulous. Definitely recommend a visit.
Feeling inspired now! I might have to have some lavender in the garden myself.
The bees and butterflies love our lavender. For that alone, I would add lavender to the garden. π
I’ve noticed a lot of purple fields near us recently, and thought they were flax, but I guess they could be lavendar, although unlikely.
The wands look great. I’ve never seen those done before. #countrykids
It would be wonderful to think lavender fields were making a come back. π
Just beautiful!!!
I love lavender!
Beautiful pictures, what a great idea π
Love our visits to the farm.
What a beautiful place to have on your doorstep – love the colours. Your lavender wands are really pretty too – what a lovely idea.
It is a beautiful colour, isn’t it?
I love lavender, you’re very lucky to have the farm nearby. Although my mum went to a lavender farm whilst on holiday recently and bought back some lavender sticks of rock for the kids – it was awful! Had to throw it away (secretly)….
That is taking the use of lavender just one step too far.
My mum loves lavender, we used to have plants in the garden. Wondering if we have a farm near us that we could visit in the future. Also love the lavender wands, what a fantastic idea. Great photos x
If you can find a local farm, it is worth a visit.
What beautiful photos, I absolutely love lavender fields. Your lavender wands are a great idea, I would have everything in my house smelling like lavender if I could! xx
Me too! Love the scent of lavender. (understatement)
I really love and its my dream to visit a lavender field! It just looks so calming. Thanks for sharing that lavender wand too! thats something new to me =) #countrykids
The colour and scent is amazing.
