In between finding fossils and exploring caves, I have been crafting. I’ve been busy on my hexagon quilt (more soon on that one). My knitting needles have not been idle for long either. Behind the scenes I am still making progress on my knitted patchwork blanket.
I love this latest stitch. It is a new one for me. It’s a little bit more interesting than just alternating knit and purl as it has a yarn over. A straight forward stitch. Dare I say it, but I could imagine using this for a jumper. With the right colour wool, I think I could pull it off. Pull off making it, I mean.
The pattern calls it dewdrop, but it reminds me more of little delicate bells. Maybe lily of the valley. Dew drops are more spherical than this pattern.
Although after visiting caves, yesterday, the pattern could be a network of cave entrances on the side of a hill. Imagine a fire burning in the entrance and animal skins stretched out to dry. Can you see it? Maybe its just me.
Having knitted several of these squares now, I can’t help thinking that the colour of the wool makes a big difference in whether I like the finished piece. Obvious, I know. If I had time, (Ha!) I would love to knit some of these stitches up in different colours. Just to see. I do want to widen the choice of stitches that I use when I knit clothes. Now I shall be thinking more about the combination of stitch and colour as well as the effect they will have on the style of the garment.
I’d like to use this stitch for a waistcoat for my youngest. An interesting green maybe. Hmmmm.
Little Bell square
Cast on 43 stitches.
Abbreviation: P (purl), K (Knit), Yo ( yarn over), K2tog (knit 2 stitches together), P2tog (purl 2 stitches together), psso (pass slipped stitch over the knitted stitch), s1s (slip one stitch)
repeat the stitches between the pair of *s until the end of the row or the last few stitches.
Row 1: K2, *P3, K3,* P3, K2,
Row 2: P2, *K3, P3,* K3, P2
Row 3: same as row 1
Row 4: K2, *Yo, s1s, K2tog, psso, Yo, K3,* Yo, s1s, K2tog, psso, Yo, K2 (try saying it out loud!)
Row 5: same as row 2
Row 6: same as row 1
Row 7: same as row 2
Row 8: K2to,g * Yo, K3, Yo, s1s, K2tog, psso,* Yo, K3, Yo, s1s, K1, psso
I repeated rows 2 to 21 six times to make the square.
Hope you like it!
It’s lovely …I can see rows of charming little acorns !!!
Oh, I like that idea. It would be fun to try knitting it with different colours for the cap and acorn. Hmmm.
I love this knitting pattern. You are so clever and patient to knit so much. Your blanket is going to be gorgeous when it is finished.
Have a wonderful week,
Anne xx
I liked it on the page, but it knitted up even better. The finished blanket should look fairly random. No great theme in colours. A bit higgledy piggledy, but hopefully homely
I love that one! I also love the colour so you may be right about it influencing how you feel….it looks lovely with the polished stones too! xx
I’m quite taken with this stitch. Sort of quiet and unassuming feel to it. It definitely shows potential. (Couldn’t resist adding a bit of colour with the stones!)
what are rows 2, 3, and 4?
Not sure what happened there. Gone back to an earlier version of this post and these are the correct rows now. Hmm, Gremlin on the loose!
