When I got back from dropping off the children this morning, I spotted the first sign that my kitchen garden is waking up. It’s my Timperley early rhubarb.
We are still picking brussel sprouts from last year, that survived the snow and I left the small garlics in the ground from the summer which are looking promising. Now, in contrast, the rhubarb has been out of sight all winter, so it seems like the start of a new season in the kitchen garden. Yeh!
And of course, as soon as I spot the rhubarb, then it’s covered up. Never mind, next time I see it I’ll have a jug of custard at the ready.
In the meantime, we’ll make do with the last of the apples from the freezer and have apple and cinnamon crumble. With custard, of course.
oooh things in your garden are growing (looks lovely) ours is still in bed for a while longer..I think the 18inches of packed snow is putting anything off from waking up. That said the days are lengthening fast and I think the girls are thinking about laying.
18 inches! That is some duvet. I love the winter, but am very thankful that the Gulf stream is so kind and warms us up at this time of year.
