This weekend could not be more perfect for marmalade making. Its blowing a hooley outside, or hoolie if you prefer, and I am in need of bright colours. In a big way!
We love marmalade. January is the time, in our house, to make our homemade version (recipe here). I smile every time I open my recipe book. The first time I used this recipe, I was shocked by the amount of sugar it uses. Written beside the recipe, I have added “This recipe uses A LOT of sugar”.
It does. Surprises me each time. Although if I divided the resulting marmalade by the number of pieces of toast it will be spread on, maybe it’s not so bad. Compared to other sweet treats. Please don’t tell me different.
The children will help. Sadly it will not provide them with the vitamin C dose that suits a bear, but they still love it. We’ll make it a Paddington Bear Marmalade weekend. We’ll read a Paddington Bear book, make marmalade and watch the film on DVD.
Of course, I’ll have to find the book first. I know I saw it in one the children’s bookcases. And I’ll do some knitting like Aunt Lucy. Not sure what she knits, but I’ll be making socks.
Here’s wishing you all a wonderful and colourful weekend.

Sounds like fun! I have never made Marmalade can’t stand the stuff………
More for me!!!
Mmmm marmalade. But I did think when you said it was a Paddington Bear weekend that there had been some kind of calamity. Marmalade making, knitting and film watching sound much more fun.
Funnily enough we did have a “water pouring through the ceiling from the bathroom” a few weeks ago. Fortunately it was the bath and nothing else. I think I’ll stick to making marmalade.
I can imagine the smell of the citrus …yummy
and we love Paddington ….have a good weekend :o)
The kitchen does smell good. Several pots of marmalade cooling on the table. A good weekend indeed. 🙂
This is perfect… my parents had a citrus hedge, so growing up – winters were all about marmalade. Love it!!!
Goodness! To have one citrus tree in the garden would be amazing, but a whole hedge! I could only dream.
