Dear Daughter
I think this skirt helps to illustrate that we all make mistakes and never stop learning. Even as a grown-up.
You’ve reached an age now that I should consult you more. Falling in love with a fabric (me) is not a good excuse to throw away our well thought out plan. It might have worked when you were four years old, but not now. Now I need to stick to the agreed plan. Plan A, in this case.
In all fairness, we both liked the idea, but I forgot the purpose and as your mother, I should have known better. It was too far-out-there for the occasion. The wrong crowd. One day, you will be able to wear whatever you want, where ever you want, without a care for what others think, but that is a few years off yet. I forgot. For what it’s worth, I still like this skirt and I think you looked gorgeous in it.
I’ve learnt my lesson and I’m ready to eat humble pie. Next time I will stick to Plan A. I’m only posting this so that I remember that I shouldn’t let my creativity run ahead of my sensibility.
Love from your Mother
(inexcusable excuse for a twirly skirt moving picture.)
PS I bribed your sister to model it for me, as I knew you wouldn’t. Sorry.

Mmmm, I think I know what you mean,
I think I am beginning to fully understand the expression “tween”.
Awww. I wonder when my girls will hit that age. The skirt is beautiful!
I’m hoping its not permanent, but at the same time I love that she is growing. I’ll just have to console myself with the knowledge that the other two children still look forward to outfits that I make them.
In a way, I do understand the problem, but I think it turned out great. 🙂 Maybe the younger sister will wear it?!?
Plan A was more conservative. I still hope that she will wear this skirt to a festival, but I’ll not push the point. 🙂
well… plan b is gorgeous, but i completely understand the tweenish-ness… technically we’ve got a couple years before we get there…. but i know what’s coming!
I’m going to step very thoughtfully from now on.
Beautiful skirt, y 5 year olds would love it! Fabulous twirly picture to. Mich x
I have plans to make another. Maybe in summery florals. I’m sure the fabric will make all the difference! I can’t help myself. I just cannot totally give up.
I only have boys, and they wear whatever I put in front of them, so I can’t say that I know what you are going through, but I can say that I really like the skirt and can’t think of where it isn’t appropriate for…
I guess there is an exception to every rule and this outing proved the rule! I still have my fingers crossed that she will wear it to a festival at least.
