On the subject of gardening. I can’t quite figure it out, but this year, I have been less enthusiastic about putting seeds in pots. Totally unlike me. Usually, I would have at least the tomato seeds tucked up under their duvet of seed compost, tenderly cared for on one of our window sills. Probably the first little leaves would have unfurled by now. This year, not even a cress seed packet has been uncrinkled.
I needed a push.
Last year, AJ became keen on gardening and even had her own patch. Today, she nagged nudged me to get the seeds out of their winter storage. After going through them, we made a list of seeds we need and headed on down to a not-so-local garden centre. Her enthusiasm is contagious.
This is the same garden centre we bought their cacti from. Apart from a good range of seeds, it also has the best garden centre play area I have come across. There is a flying fox, a wooden jeep and a pirate ship.
I love the ship. So do my children. There are several levels to it. It works so well. Today it was more crowded than usual and all the children seemed to be having fun. Not bad for a garden centre.
We did buy seeds. AJ is keen to grow more cut flowers, to take as bunches when we visit friends and family this summer. Not all of them on our list. Hmm. I stuck rigidly to the vegetables listed.
By the time we got home, there was only time to start the potatoes chitting. In her usual enthusiasm, AJ has labelled the old egg boxes several times with the name of each variety. As for me, her energy is contagious and how can I resist brand new seed packets, with some varities I’ve not tried before.
Also how can I fail with my very own round tuit?
Just wanted to add, that I so enjoyed everyone’s comments about dust bunnies. Its good to know that these intriguing little creatures are thriving in at least four different countries. Also, in so many different varieties. There also seems to be a grudging tolerance of them, which I feel bodes well for their continuing existence. I’d like to thank you all. 😀
Hope you had a lovely weekend.
I think you’re changing the vocabulary in our household. We’re now calling our bunnies giraffes, and I’ll vacuum them when I get round tuit. 😉
Ah, dust giraffes have made it to the US. I suspected but now we have proof. As for a round tuit, it can be a powerful tool, but be aware that if used inappropriately may put the user back months. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. 😀 Hope you enjoy your week.
That ship looks so much fun! We played at a similar one at a farm near Minehead when visiting relatives about 5 years ago – the boys still talk about it now….I think it was the high point of their holiday! I have struggled to get enthusiastic about the garden this year too – I think it has been too grey…we had sun today and it immediately calls me to go out to the garden 🙂
I wonder if it is the same ship builder as this one is just up the coast from Minehead. Just off the M5. I think you may be on to something with the link between grey skies and apathy to gardening. I’m glad you heard the call of your garden.
