Homegrown sweetcorn. After having to replant my sweetcorn patch, due to the late frost killing all the plants, we seem to have a good crop. Each plant has two or three good sized cobs. In fact, the whole garden is doing well. Our meal tonight was totally from the garden, bar a handful of cheese I added. Homegrown apple juice to wash it all down with. We made three more litres this weekend.
I’m now making fig ice cream (no, I’ve not heard of it before, but we are being overwhelmed by figs from our tree) and drinking homegrown mint tea. Just call me Barbara.
(For those of you who didn’t grew up in 1970s Britain, Barbara was a character in a sitcom and was our self-sufficiency hero)
Wow! How amazing to grow your own sweetcorn! We have blueberries, carrots, tomatoes and salad in our garden but don’t have the space for anything bigger. I’m hoping to get one of those pillar apple trees for a corner of the garden – I’ve always wanted my own apple tree :o)

I love the idea of small apple trees, growing in small places. The most loved trees.
the garden bounty is one of the greatest summer pleasures – your meal sounds wonderful! #MMBC
Thanks. I was pretty pleased at how much I could bring in.
Definitely knew who Barbara was 😉 Your corn looks amazing. I am sure it tasted better since it was home grown! #MMBC
They are so much sweeter when homegrown.
Wow how fantastic! I wish I were green-fingered. The corn looks great too x #MMBC
I’m sure you could.

Love shopping in the kitchen garden, at this time of year.
