Crafting presents and cards

I know, it is yet another pencil roll, in fact two more, but I think this fabric just makes them so cute. I was concerned that the pattern was too big, but I think it works. I tried to line up the heads of the cats carefully for the pockets, but what I didn’t anticipate… wait let me show you….

… look at how one cat is peeping at the top of the open roll. It is even looking in the right direction towards the pencils. I hope the recipient notices it.

We have been busy making Easter cards. We took the idea from 50 Easter Things to Make and Do (Usborne Activity Cards). To be honest, you could probably find all these activities somewhere on the internet. I like it because if I need quick inspiration for children’s activity, it is a handy book to grab at this time of year. Also they are reaching the age when they like the opportunity to choose.

We liked the chick idea, so they tried it out on a white piece of paper first. Then they used their thumbs to splodge yellow blobs on green card and paint grass clumps. As this was drying, the cards kept on catching my eye and they reminded me of lemons.

Once AJ had used a thin black marker pen to mark in the details and orange for the beaks, they looked nothing like lemons. She had the chicks doing all sorts of things – playing football, sitting in a nest, wearing a party hat.

Just one more card, which I want to include so I don’t forget. We have a few children’s books from way back. They are falling to pieces and not of the calibre worth saving. So rather than throwing them away, I am using them to make birthday cards, among other things. The children use glitter glue (I love glitter glue) to add interest. Here is the latest one. At least it is unique and the birthday girl/boy won’t have a matching one.

So what was I doing, when they were dabbing fingers into yellow paint and squeezing out glitter glue. Making blueberry muffins, of course.

… and, yes, I got to this one before Gwinny the dog.

  1. The pencil rolls with the cat fabric are excellent!!!!
I bought a piece of fabric with gamboling rabbits on it but that’s as far as I’ve got so far… ooops
The chicks are rather great too

love the mug and muffin …our furry dog would get along fine with Gwinny I think.. the Chew dog is 14 and now has royal privileges…well she thinks so. This means if you catch her pinching something she just carries on going with just the slight shrug that carries the message “what are you going to do? shout at an old dog enjoying the pleasures of life! I don’t think so” and darn it she’s right lol

    1. Sounds like the Chew dog has got you wrapped round her paw. I’m smiling as I type this as I know exactly what you mean by “what are you going to do?…” Dogs know us too well! You can almost see Gwinny calculated how much she can swipe before I get to her side of the room. Pretty accurate.

  2. Before I was married and when I lived at the family home, we had a lovely, but independent minded collie, Ben, who sat in his basket at the foot of the stairs and had carefully calculated how many stairs a person had to climb before he could with safety, ignore calls or attempted pursuit and bolt to the kitchen to raid the cat food bowl.
He knew by the time you’d descended that number of stairs the cat food would be safely wolfed down, his tummy full and mission accomplished…and the look on his face when he knew he’d foxed you was priceless.
It really was funny…especially the day he miscalculated and forgot my older brother was at home and sitting in the kitchen …the gleeful stare at me as I rose past the fateful stair number was a cracker then he galloped down the hall , cornered and dived into the kitchen ..to be greeted by a booming voice bellowing “And what do you think you’re up to” this was accompanied by the noise of claws on lino frantically scrabbling into reverse… that day a very sheepish dog returned to his basket at the bottom of the stairs.
You are quite right they do know us far too well…lol

    1. Lol. I can just imagine it. I thought you meant ascended. Ultimate aim of dog, in this game, is to optimise food consumption. Better chance when opponent is facing up the stairs.
Our first Deerhound used to walk passed table tops with the air of a dog who did not care for food and then, with a quick, smooth head movement she would swipe the food. Once she ate a child’s icecream as she walked passed the child. The only giveaway sign that it had happened was a crying child. Oh and the empty ice cream cone.
