I had one of those rare days, where I spent the day with just one of the children. We started off going into her old school for a craft session with one of the classes, involving a lot of cinnamon. And I mean, a lot of cinnamon. More on that in another post.
Next on to a brief meeting at her school along with all her classmates (how secondary school works is still surprising me), followed by lunch out. By the time we got home, my head still felt heavy from all the cinnamon, along with the strange feeling of sitting in a school room again, so I knew we needed some time outside. It did us both good. The rakes came out. We improvised with a bin, as the wheel barrows are still full of apples.
Who can resist the temptation to kick the pile of leaves? It took about an hour, but one part of the garden is clear , with more to clear tomorrow. The leaves are piled up, ready to make leaf mould. Best of all, it cleared our heads. Simple, but effective.
Linking up for #CountryKids. Special hello to any fellow blog hoppers. Hope you all had fun outside.
I can never resist a big pile of leaves and my son has the joy of leaf kicking now too. We did some garden tidying recently, begrudgingly but glad it’s been done now.
Thank goodness it is fun. Looking at our trees, I think we have just as much to come down still. It does make great leaf mould. 😀
The weather has been perfect this week for leaf collecting/, dry and bright. Your daughter looks stunning and what a great way to spend some outdoor time and clear the garden too.
Dry leaves are much easier to move. Our copper beech looks so magnificant in leaf and it does make a beautiful carpet of leaves when they fall, but needs must! I defintely needed time outside 😀
Leaf clearing is a great way to get outside. All ours are cleared up now though 🙂 It’s lovely to just get outside and clear away the cobwebs isn’t it? #CountryKids
Still got so many leaves to clear up and not all of them have fallen yet. I think we’ll be doing a bit more cobweb clearing this week! 😀
I become such a big kid when there’s leaves about. I think fallen leaves were made for kicking. You look really engrossed in it too 🙂
There is a pile of leaves that the wind has piled up on the side of our drive. Every time I take the children to school, they (and me) cannot resist a quick kick through it. Each day the wind has piled it up again, ready for us! 😀
I think you’re right – a bit of fresh air really does clear your head and brighten your mood, as you say, simple but effective 🙂 #CountryKids
It was a lot of cinnamon. Very glad of time outside.
This is something we really need to do and soon, we don’t have any trees big enough for loads of leaves yet but our garden has been ‘invaded’ by leaves from the trees next to the canal!
Hope you find it fun raking up!
Mmmmmmm a lovey pile of leaves for composting. When we had our allotment the council used to allow us to take leaves from their huge piles, it made terrific compost.

Debating whether I’ll put it straight on one of the kitchen garden beds and cover it. Let the worms and fungi do the rest!
there is nothing like a garden clean up ready for the winter
Don’t like to tidy it too much, but some jobs just have to be done.
I can never resist kicking a big pile of leaves….Fab fun!
Never grow out of kicking leaves!
we could do with them round at ours please – our garden is covered in a leafy blanket which needs tidying away. x
I’d send them all over, but they’ve not finished here yet! 😀
Lucky you having your daughter help out with the leaves rather than jumping in and out of them.
Oh, she did both. Fortunately she was also very good at taking the leaves up to the heap. 😀
I want some leaves to put on my vegetable patch as I hear they are the best fertiliser – going to have to do some leaf clearing as well! hope my daughter is as helpful as yours was!
It does make great compost. Worth the effort of collecting the leaves up. Hope you have fun raking.
Great pictures, makes me want to go kick some leaves, ha not the ones that has been cleaned up though 🙂
So long as they all end up in the leaf pile, I don’t mind! 😀
ah i love those ‘helping’ out days! cute pics
She’s a helpful soul and sees a job to the end. I hope it lasts.
