Food!
Can I get to it?
Maybe not.
Hang on! Sparrows, that’s MY food!
Geronimo!
Disclaimer: Bird table suitable for sparrows and small birds only. When a fully grown Cream Legbar cockerel lands on the table it will topple over loudly, breaking abandoned jam jar below and scattering a flock of hens. (Not suitable for under 3 years old due to small parts)
It may be overcast today, but really there isn’t a dull moment. Even when photos are taken through slightly grimy windows!
What a handsome cockerel! My chickens have nothing to jump on to get to my bird table, though they hang about underneath catching the dropped seeds. The blackbirds have been winding them up today by hopping in circles around them till the chickens go wild and try to chase them. Obviously they are no way quick enough, so funny to watch!
He has been eyeing up the bird table for a while. Something must have clicked in that brain of his, to decide to fly up on the top of our compost container. I’ve moved the table over now, but I daresay, he’ll give it another go. After all, the seed went everywhere!
Totally fabulous.
I love the adventures you always seem to have going on right on your doorstep.
The chickens are a source of much amusement to me. I call them my walking garden gnomes!
That is the funniest thing I have ever seen – what an amazing cockerel! The wild birds steal the chicken food in my garden, it’s great to see the chickens getting their revenge! 😀
😀 😀 You are right. The little birds are very good at helping themselves to the chicken food. Chicken’s revenge! I like it. I just thought he was greedy.
We love it..the girls are still laughing 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆
It took him about ten minutes to build up the courage to jump. He almost gave up several times. The sparrows were the last straw…..
Don’t you love it when you get to photograph something funny like this! Fantastic photos. He is a very handsome bird.

So often I am too late. It was great to capture this moment. He is one of identical twins. In fact, to be honest, I’m not sure if he was Cockle or Doodle, as the children call them. I call them Lucky and Noodle. 🙂
Oh my goodness, that is just too cute!! Today we were lamenting the starlings eating from the chicken feeder… I guess it works both ways doesn’t it?
Blessings, Debbie
Usually my chickens hang around the bottom of the seed table. First time I’ve seen one make a try for the table. It made a huge crash when it fell, so I’m not sure he’ll try it again!
Wonderful…
😀 Makes a change from the squirrels raiding the table.
That is just marvellous, great shots! Is there anything that animals wouldn’t do for that little extra batch of food?? Nothing comes to mind…
No, I can’t think of anything either. I’m used to watching our dog, but now its the chickens too.
These photos are priceless! I have 6 bantams and one has a taste for cake like you would not believe. Last Easter, when it was so warm, we had simnel cake on the table for tea in the garden and who do you think saw opportunity knocking and was up on the table helping herself, not to crumbs but the centre of the cake itself?! Needless to say we were all a bit taken aback and she had helped herself to a tidy bit of cake and several sultanas before being shooed off! I love your cockerel humming and hawing over whether this is possible and then deciding “what the heck?” and going for it!
What a cheeky hen! 😀 Every now and again there is just one chicken in a flock, which makes you think that it is not quite so pea brained as the rest.
