So the thank you cards have been made and written.
The decorations are coming down. Leaving little bits of tinsel and pine needles.
Oh, and memories. Like the children setting up the best snow scene ever and using some of their loved toys to make the scene their own.
This little chap determined to be part of the walk to collect the turkey.
Enough snow that we could collect the turkey from the farm on Christmas Eve using our sled. Beats queuing in the supermarket.
Plenty of making and doing, which will carry on. There were puppet theatres made and stories rehearsed. Baboushka dolls painted with more to be done.
The company of family and friends. A lovely New Year Day walk with old friends.
Just savouring the moment, before I break open the seed catalogues and unbend the new crisp calendars. The girls are back at school today. Ho hum.
Lovely photos and descriptions…esp the Turkey sled ride and the Polar bear card.
The Russian dolls are charming did you buy blanks?
Have you read Tolkiens Letters to Father Christmas? This year was our first introduction them and the girls find the antics of the Polar bear very funny.
We also tried Joyce Brisley’s Bunchy stories (“Bunchy” and “More Bunchy”) they loved them (so did I) There were about 3 Christmas related stories in the collections and they were a real treat. (Th e snow globe reminded me of these)
Father Christmas gave the girls a Russian doll painting kit each in their stocking. Each kit comes with five blank wooden dolls that stack inside each other. They had some guiding lines on them. Not a bad kit.
We got the Letters to Father Christmas this year. I love the illustrations. Still reading it. Looking forward to reading it to the children next year. I’ll have to look for the Bunchy stories. Always love your recommendations. Thanks Val.
Just love the turkey photo…beats any Victorian Christmas card picture!
Yes…thank you cards…we are far behind but hope to get a move on this week.
xx
It is one of our very favourite traditions. Every Christmas Eve for the last 14 years, we have trudged up the lane to our local farm to collect the turkey. Usually it is slung over a grown up’s shoulder, like Father Christmas’s sack. This year, AJ was so thrilled to be pulling it home.
I just love every single photograph!!! I want to just climb into that post and live it!!!
Me, too! I could do with at least another week before getting back into the routine. Although we may have more snow on the way, so maybe there will be a few more sled rides over the weekend. For the children, not the turkey. The turkey left overs are in the freezer and will not be joining in.
Great photos. Love looking back over the holiday photos. But I am NOT ready to take down the decorations! We just got back from vacation and we have been gone so long I feel like I haven’t had enough time to enjoy them. A few more days of Santas around the house won’t hurt anyone, right?
Thanks abbie. I am enjoying looking back at the photos of our holiday. The house is feeling very bare without the decorations, but I’ll probably blink and it will be time to get the boxes out again 🙂
I love your turkey collection method! So beautiful where you live.
If only we could collect by sled every year!
