hexi puff flower

F is for finishing flowers. These are hexi-puffs. Knitted up and now being sewn together to make a quilt. A Bee Keeper quilt. All 208 or so of them. This time of year, I love sitting outside with sewing projects, while the children play or chat to me, after school. The light is so much easier to sew by and there is the strong scent of honeysuckle in the air. And their laughter and voices distract me from the repetitiveness.

The basket holds the puffs made into flowers, which still need to be joined to each other. The bag behind has the hexi-puffs waiting to be made into flowers. Hopefully I’ll have the finished flowers soon. Hopefully it won’t take forever.

Yes, that is a faithful hound in the background.

  1. 😛 Really impressed with that basket-filled with hexi-puffs! I wish I had the talent to knit too. Tried once, but was a bit of a disaster. #AlphabetPhoto.

    1. Not a beginner’s project! These are darn fiddly to knit, but quick. So satisfying to finish one let alone the whole quilt. 🙂

    1. It’s one of those pick-up-and-do projects for odd moments. I was going to make it twice as big, but then I came to my senses!

    1. They are addictive. Had to stop. Realised that I can cope with small wool blankets. They fit in the washing machine more easily.

  5. Well done, how on earth you had the tenacity to keep going I don’t know but it is going to look brilliant when finished and so warm. I did try making them but didn’t get very far. lol

  7. Wow! That’s a big project. It’s shaping up to look amazing and I can imagine that your quilt will be very cosy and snuggly for those cold winter nights that lie ahead. Lovely work and good luck finishing it. All the best, Bonny

    1. I hope it looks good. Never a good feeling to hold up the finished article and find you don’t like it, after all the hours of work!

  12. WOW!! What an outstanding …and HUGE project!
    Love that you can do it while the kids are playing… present out there with them but letting them get on with it 😉
    …I have no idea what a Bee Keeper Quilt is? – Just because of the honeycomb shape?
    I see it’s going to be a very thick blanket …Enthralled!

    1. I am more likely to sit still if I’m sewing, rather than all the other little jobs that are forever calling out, so they really do get more of my attention. Yes, the shape of the puffs give it the name. Lots of wonderful completed quilts out there.

  13. I have seen these before but only in small amounts! They look wonderful, did you use scrap yarn or buy specifically for this project? I am not sure I would have the staying power to complete such a project……..

    1. I started off using scrap wool and recycled, then I compromised by buying bargain bucket yarn. One of the reasons that I’m going for a half sized blanket instead of the full sized version. It was meant to be using up my yarn, not adding to it!

  14. Oh wow! Was blown away by the hexi-puffs then I saw the task! Goodness me that’s going to keep you very busy! The flowers are going to be fabulous when they’re done though – let’s hope you can sit outside!     1. Compared with the knitting, the sewing should not take as long. My problem is that I get distracted by other projects and the hexi puffs are left unfinished. Again.
