AlphabetPhoto: E is for…

elderflower tea and embroidery

E is for the exact art of embroidery and the exquisite taste of elderflower tea. A perfect combination. Not an earwig in sight.

Inspired by Knitting Sandwich’s beautiful embroidery, I’ve dug up an unfinished project and added more stitches. Dates back to when I was a teenager. The choice of design feels so much younger than I feel now, but the stitches are too good to leave the piece unfinished. I know what I’m going to do with it now.

elderflower tea

As for the elderflower tea – we make elderflower cordial every year (recipe here), but a firm favourite with me is fresh elderflower tea. Soothing and floral. Pick a sprig straight from the tree and pop it flowers-first into the cup. Add boiling water. Allow to steep, then drink. Easy to fish out the flowers from the boiling brew, if you prefer, using the built in stem! Enjoy!

  1. We too have made cordial but never tried tea. I can’t eat or drink things made with elderberries as it make me ill, so I will just have to take your word on it that it tastes good. Shame tho’ when we have some many trees around us………..

    1. That is a shame, but at least you can benefit from the wonderful aroma from the trees. It’s like that, but a tea.

  2. Would love to try the elderflower tea! Would have to watch out for them when I take the dog out later 😉 Love the design, btw, it’s so classic, owls are always “in” 🙂 #alphabetphoto.

    1. True. Owls never go out of fashion. Hope you like the tea. Just don’t have anything sugary sweet with it. Ruins the taste.

    1. This time of year, all my tea is fresh from the bush. Need more than the dried variety. I just prefer the fresh flavour.

  3. oh yay! i’m so excited that you’ve gone back to your embroidery – the stitches are amazing!!

  5. Lovely embroidery, I haven’t done any since I was a teenager 🙂 I love elderflower cordial, I’ve never had tea though… #alphabetphoto

    1. The tea is more floral and less sweet than the cordial. Its worth a try, just don’t eat anything sweet with it. Spoils the taste.

    1. I could do more with the embroidery, but I think I’ll draw a line and use it for another project that I have in mind. Watch this space!

  6. Your embroidery is very pretty. Not sure about elderflower tea though, I’m very boring when it comes to teas!
