AlphabetPhoto: C is for …

drinker moth caterpillar

C is for caterpillar, curling around a blade of grass. We have a rich variety of butterflies and moths around our garden. An activity on our list this holiday is to set up a moth trap one night. Judging by the number of moths bashing against our windows each night, it should be interesting.

This caterpillar, I think, will turn into a Drinker moth. Named as it was thought they liked to drink the dew drops from plants. I like the idea that it’s named after how it behaves rather than how it looks. Maybe there’s another caterpillar named “hairy-mottled”. (Although, I know they’re usually named after how the adults look.)

Doing a bit of chamomile crafting with the children today. Replacing a planned trip to a castle. I see the letter theme carrying on today.

Joining in with AlphabetPhoto for week C. Thank you for all the lovely comments for B week. Lots of great photos and interesting choices.

    1. What do you mean almost? He is very cute. Maybe not everyone’s cup of tea, but always a thrill to find. I’m just a big kid!

    1. If I’ve got it right, this one will turn into a moth. Not a colourful one as it is a browny-yellow, but still interesting.

    1. Not sure if it has been proved that the moth does drink the dew drops, but it is a nice image to imagine. 🙂

  1. I do like how you’ve managed to get so much detail and showing the beauty of the ‘hairy-mottled’ ones. Lovely!

  2. Great detail there – I love their defence mechanism of rolling up into a ball, I think they’ve got that just right 🙂

    1. This little caterpillar obviously didn’t sense I was a threat. It carried on heading for the top of the grass.

  3. What an awesome capture, some of them are so pretty. I rather like the hairy ones it has to be said, amazing detail on them too. Great photo, thank you so much for sharing with #alphabetphoto. Have a great weekend 🙂

    1. I think the hairy caterpillar variety are my favourite too. Although some of the others have such beautiful markings and they’re all fascinating to watch.

    1. I was waiting to take a photo of another insect, when I spotted this one just beside me. Just goes to show you! 🙂
