C is for caterpillar, curling around a blade of grass. We have a rich variety of butterflies and moths around our garden. An activity on our list this holiday is to set up a moth trap one night. Judging by the number of moths bashing against our windows each night, it should be interesting.
This caterpillar, I think, will turn into a Drinker moth. Named as it was thought they liked to drink the dew drops from plants. I like the idea that it’s named after how it behaves rather than how it looks. Maybe there’s another caterpillar named “hairy-mottled”. (Although, I know they’re usually named after how the adults look.)
Doing a bit of chamomile crafting with the children today. Replacing a planned trip to a castle. I see the letter theme carrying on today.
Joining in with AlphabetPhoto for week C. Thank you for all the lovely comments for B week. Lots of great photos and interesting choices.
Such a great photo 🙂 Have a lovely day crafting and on your trip #alphabetphoto
Should be chaos, as usual. They get far too excited when I mention fabric and the sewing machine.
Fantastic close up!!
They are beautiful in their own right.
He almost looks cute that close up!
What do you mean almost? He is very cute. Maybe not everyone’s cup of tea, but always a thrill to find. I’m just a big kid!
He looks so fluffy! I wish I can see him as a butterfly just to know what hell look like =) #AlphabetPhoto
If I’ve got it right, this one will turn into a moth. Not a colourful one as it is a browny-yellow, but still interesting.
Great shot! What a fab, hairy caterpillar 🙂 #alphabetphoto
It is rather hairy! 🙂
Lovely hairy caterpillar photo. I like your idea of a moth trap. What fun your children will have with that one. Hope you catch loads. All the best, Bonny
They will love doing it! 🙂
What a fabulous close up shot, so much detail #alphabetphoto
I love the chance to see a mini beast close up.
They sure do Creep me out, great shot!
Not everyone’s cup of tea!
What a great shot! I’m not a huge bug fan but he looks quite sweet!
Being so hairy gives it that cute-factor!
Oh my goodness, that photo is absolutely stunning!
Thanks Lou. I was pleased at how it looked. 🙂
Great close up. I love the focus points and the background blur. Really brings out his cool fuzziness. A beautiful image of a moth drinking due. #alphabetphoto
Not sure if it has been proved that the moth does drink the dew drops, but it is a nice image to imagine. 🙂
I do like how you’ve managed to get so much detail and showing the beauty of the ‘hairy-mottled’ ones. Lovely!
Hairy-mottled would have made a good name! Bound to be taken already.
Great detail there – I love their defence mechanism of rolling up into a ball, I think they’ve got that just right 🙂
This little caterpillar obviously didn’t sense I was a threat. It carried on heading for the top of the grass.
What an awesome capture, some of them are so pretty. I rather like the hairy ones it has to be said, amazing detail on them too. Great photo, thank you so much for sharing with #alphabetphoto. Have a great weekend 🙂
I think the hairy caterpillar variety are my favourite too. Although some of the others have such beautiful markings and they’re all fascinating to watch.
Lovely capture, I come across some hairy caterpillars in our garden but never get the chance to see what they will become. Great close up!
They are fascinating creatures. All the better for being seen close up.
Great photo! Really get a sense of how furry he is! xx #alphabetphoto
Thanks, Elizabeth! 🙂
This is a stunning capture. x
I was waiting to take a photo of another insect, when I spotted this one just beside me. Just goes to show you! 🙂
