Sand between the toes

in the water

Simple fun. I forget every year. We spend so much time walking on beaches in the colder months, going from A to B. I forget how much fun it can be to just stay put. In one spot.

playing in the water

One spot gives a chance for children to jump the waves.

all family on beach

Dig holes and experiment with complicated and convoluted drainage systems.

sand castle

Build castles with fortifications.

playing in the sand

Work as a slick team. Co-opting Including other children on the beach to complete their engineering objective (keeping the tide away from their castle).

dog on beach

All the time, watched over by the faithful hound.

I do forget that a day on the beach is filled with wonderful play. No quarrels. Just fun.

sun on the water

Also time for us grown-ups to sit back and enjoy the sunlight painting the tips of the waves. And, yes, feel the sand between our toes.

Note to self: Love this small beach. Steep hills and no road access but a very friendly beach. We chatted to so many lovely people. No polystyrene cups or containers from the beach cafe. Proper mugs, plates and trays. A fun few days for everyone.(Photos taken with phone.)

  1. We often forget that too as beaches are such good places for walking in the winter – but a day lazing when it is warm is wonderful. Looks like you had a great time. Juliex

    1. Having a dog means that we’re usually on the beach to give her a walk, not to build sandcastles. Nice change for the children.

  2. lovely pictures and a fantastic day out. We did a beach day last week and it was one of my favourite days of the whole summer, just simple fun and time to not think about anything else.

    1. I love beach days! I’m sure it wouldn’t be the same if I did it every day. The children never need guidance in how they play, which just adds to it being so relaxing. 🙂

  3. Looks amazing. I can’t tell you how much I miss the beach living in Wiltshire. Today we’re off back home to Norfolk where I will get my beach fix rain or shine! Lovely pics. Found you via Country Kids x

    1. Oh, it is. High tide was mid day, the week we went, but we just worked around it! Or should that be played? Next time, I’m checking the tide times.

  4. Impressive photos considering they were with your phone! I do love the beach as do our children, such simple pure fun where they use their own imaginations to play in the water, build castles or investigate the rock pools. Thanks for sharing your beach adventures with Country Kids.

    1. I was amazed at how well the phone camera worked. Not so flexible, but at least it saved my main camera getting sand in it! The children had so much fun. I took these photos earlier on. Their sand castles grew and grew. Love the time for them to use their imaginations and creativity.

    1. She sits and waits for people to come over and stroke her. I had to keep moving her as she was determined to get in everyone’s way.
