Nature inspiration

Sometimes the patterns on the wildlife in our garden seems almost too good to be true. Today, the children and I spotted a few examples less than a stone throw from the house.

We found this little snail on top of our compost today. We have a lot of different snails around, but this one really caught my eye. I love the pattern. It looks like marquetry.

I think it got fed up of being photographed, so it started moving off. Kitchen timer went off and when I eventually remembered the snail, it had crawled down the side of the stone and was hiding. I think it was camera shy.

We found this hairy caterpillar on our front door. Its bristles had broken the web around it. It stayed there all day. I don’t think it minded the camera at all.

We found this spider (Araneus diadematus) outside the kitchen door. It has the most wonderful stripey legs and intricate pattern on its back. Its been there several days and I find it fascinating. It greets us everytime we go through the door. Today it proved not to be camera shy. This photo is through the window.

I love all the patterns we found today. I find them inspiring and beautiful. Final shot of nature inspiration from the garden.

TF insisted on holding the pumpkin behind him. He said it was prickly and heavy. This nature find…. I’m looking forward to cooking. The other nature finds….. safe from us at least.

  1. Hi Cheryl,
Isn’t nature amazing? I absoultely adore the first two photos of the snail and I was wondering if you would mind if I used one of these images for a future oil painting. The simplicity and beauty has really captured my imagination. If you would prefer that I don’t that’s o.k.
    Enjoy your day.

    1. Hi Anne. I don’t mind at all if you use these photos as inspiration for a painting. Just promise that you will let me see the result. I’m glad I’m not the only one who finds this snail intriguing.

    1. I had a lovely shot of the underside of the spider. Although it was beautiful in design, I have to admit it sent a shiver down my back. Seemed a good enough reason not to include it with the other photos.
