Mojo – my word of the week

Maybe it’s the slightly lighter evenings or the frosty mornings, but February is feeling good. I’m ignoring the fact that we’re still in mud season and my kitchen floor is matching the great outdoors. I’m focusing on the frosty, blue sky, sunny mornings when I can enthusiastically describe the weather as good for sweetening parsnips, while wondering why I didn’t plant any…

Anyway, my mojo is back. Projects are flying off my table. I’ve finally put the finishing touches to my red cardigan. I reknitted the button band and added a ribbon. Now it’s blocked (shaped while wet), I can wear it.

Also been enjoying rattling off a couple of embroidery projects. It’s been a while. The rhythm of sewing tiny stitches is calming. Something that is needed as exam season approaches. With two of the children taking external exams this summer, I’ve chosen ones with inspirational quotes. Basically resorting to anything that might nudge them to buckle down and revise, without inciting teenage angst.

Sewing helps me. Hopefully the words will inspire….along with the revision bribes I’m working on.

Also getting the garden going. I need to top up on a few basic seeds, but I have most. I’m so looking forward to the new growing season, but don’t want to start too soon. I’ve found, from bitter experience, that seed germination and seedling success works better as the year warms up.

In the meantime, I can start some on my window sill. Came across an interesting tip about using an old yoghurt pot and peas to grow pea shoots. Harvesting them straight from the windowsill in the kitchen. We love pea shoots and they are so much tastier fresh. I’ve set off a pot this week, so I can see how it goes. Couple of years ago, I tried growing them in my raised beds, but thanks to a pair of young and dedicated wood pigeons, I saw none.

More decluttering planned for this weekend. Horrible weather on the way, which will make it easier for me to get on with the job in hand. No outdoor distractions. Also looking forward to watching a few Studio Ghilbi films on Netflix. Food cupboards are full and the wood store is stacked, so I’m going to take the weekend as it comes.

Hope you all have a good weekend.

  1. Thanks for the inspiration today, Cheryl. I have always loved the “She believed…” quote. Planting those pea seeds in the ground and watching them germinate is such a hopeful endeavor.

  2. I heard that Studio Ghibli was on Netflix now, I’ll have to catch up with some of my favourites. I love Spirited Away. I like the ribbon you’ve added to your cardi, and your embroidery is lovely. Good luck with the decluttering and the peas.

  3. She believed she could so she did. Love this! Sewing is not my thing, but I was just speaking with my aunt yesterday and saying I hoped it wasn’t a dying art. You’re proving it is still alive. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Not dying at all. There are some wonderful, sassy embroiderers out there. I’ve found so many on Instagram. Take a look at the #RitasQuilt. Amazing!

  4. We all need our mojo and I hope your quotes inspire your children. I think I worried more than my children did over their revision. They seem to muddle through though. Good luck to them. I can’t seem to find a way to follow your blog. Is there an email link somewhere on the site that I have missed for updates?

    1. Thank you for spotting the error. It is hidden at the end, which is bad enough, but I don’t think it is working properly. On my to-do list for this week. I’ll keep you posted!

  5. February is a good month. I have noticed that it is getting lighter on an evening. Summer is coming! Hooray!
It looks like you have been busy. The embroidery projects look fab! The quotes are a brilliant idea.

  6. Lol, I can relate to the kitchen floor matching the great outdoors at this time of year! This time of year is definitely good for being indoors doing crafts or decluttering โ€“ especially with the stormy weather today. Glad you have your crafting mojo back. I love your embroidery projects and that red cardigan is such a lovely shade. Good luck with growing pea shoots. Iโ€™m trying to start off some carrots and leeks on my windowsill in paper pots at the moment. Love the photo of the snowdrops โ€“ so pretty. #WotW

  7. The blue skies have been amazing lately but very deceptive as it’s still been very chilly. It sounds like you’ve been on fire with all your creative endeavors, I love that you have used inspirational quotes in your embroidery I hope they help motivate the teens to revise. I really need another good declutter before the Spring arrives, hope you had a good weekend x

    1. Ended up sewing rather than decluttering, although I do count that as a form of decluttering. My craft cupboards are marginally more empty. ๐Ÿ˜†
