Restful

This week has been gloriously restful. Obviously the usual everyday dramas, such as getting children out of bed in time for school, not having the right ingredients for them to take into food tech and, well, you can guess the rest. I’m sure I used to be better at all these bits of life. In the long and distant past. Fresh admiration for the teen who used to take over an hour to get ready for school in year 7, but now can do it all in under 15 minutes. I guess that’s sixth form for you.

So, restful. Yes. I’ve had time to potter in the garden, at the weekend and lunch breaks. The benefits of working from home. I wonder now if I went back to work in the city, whether the park keepers would find me weeding their flower beds, while nibbling on my sandwich, at lunch time. Just out of force of habit.

It hasn’t been all gardening (and work). On Sunday, Mr TTC and I went to Avebury. Early start, so none of the children decided to join us. It was rather nice just being the two of us. Mr TTC was off on the 10k run, which started in the middle of the stones, while I took my camera around the stones. He said the route was fabulous. Some hard parts, but the views were amazing.

Avebury is one of my favourite places to visit, so I was happy. The 10k run happens once a month and they are free to enter. I’ve found myself in the unusual position of being the one to suggest we go back next month. (More here about Avebury and my visit)

Only one cricket match, this week. First one was cancelled due to the Glastonbury Festival. We’re not too near to the festival site, but close enough to qualify for Sunday tickets. They’ve sorted out the traffic, which used to be ridiculous. A fifteen minute journey to school would take three times as long. Petrol stations used to run out of petrol, milk and bread. Only notice the increase in helicopters now, as VIPs are transported in, I guess. (Also can hear the festival if the wind is right. Or should I say wrong? Sound travels.) Anyway, being near does have unexpected knock on effects, such as cricket matches being cancelled. I can live with that.

On a green note, middle teen and I made toilet bombs to cut down on plastic. I’ve been looking for an excuse to make these, as it is basically the same as a bath bomb without the oil and flowers. They are put in the loo to clean it. I still have bags of bicarbonate of soda and citric acid, from when I used to make bath bombs with the children at school. There are only so many bath bombs I need. I’ve been using the left overs for cleaning, so making toilet bombs seemed a good idea. They work and it was lovely having time with the teen, while we made them.

That was my week. I’ve found time to read. Good Omens (affiliated link). Really enjoying it. Also knitting. My red cardigan is growing. Not as fast as the last one I knitted, but it’s more about the journey this time, as I’m not going to be wearing it in this heat.

Restful.

  1. What a lovely week you’ve had, I did chuckle at the thought of you weeding city parks on your lunch break. I’m trying to cut down on plastic, starting with eliminating as much as we can from our weekly shop. It’s not an easy task when so much comes wrapped in plastic and we are not even sure where it ends up after going in the recycling. It’s great that you are getting the teens involved in the effort too. Have a lovely weekend x

    1. It really isn’t easy to cut the single use plastic out of the weekly shop. When you find a plastic free solution, it tends to be more expensive. Hopefully this will improve, as more people demand change. My teens can’t escape. I’m forever going on about it. They’ve had it all their lives! 😆

  2. I have never heard of toilet bombs before. I will have to try them. I am trying to cut down on plastic use too. “Restful” sounds like a good week!

  3. What a lovely week. I can totally relate to the gardening! I love pottering around in mine too.
The toilet bombs are a fab idea! And how lovely that you got to spend some quality time with your teen whilst making them.

    Hope you’ve had a fab weekend. x #MMBC

  4. The toilet bombs are a fab idea – I think I’ll have to have a go at those. Also lovely that your teen joined you, they can be hard to engage in screen-free activities! #MMBC

    1. The teens so often enjoy helping and doing the activities, once they are away from the screens. I guess it’s all about reminding them.

  5. Glad you had a nice restful week. Avebury is a beautiful place for a run. I can imagine the views were wonderful. Love your photos of the stones. I never thought of making toilet bombs – what a great idea. One to add to the list of ways of trying to cut down on plastic. #WotW

  6. Ooh toilet bombs are a great idea, I am still thinking of how I can reduce plastics. What is it with teens giving ingredient lists for cooking right at the last minute it drives me batty! Goodness I bet that has been so frustrating over the years, but I would be very tempted to use that Sunday ticket, although I would not be brave enough to camp x

    1. I used to make sure they gave me the ingredient list as they walked through the door with whatever they made last. Used to….

  7. Sorry it’s taken me so long to pop by, I like the sound of a restful week, maybe I’ll have one next week as this one has been manic.
We have neighbours that play music loud enough to feel like Glastonbury! At least it doesn’t bother you all the time. Thanks for linking up to word of the week.

    1. Yes. I’m glad we don’t have it all the time. I think loud music from neighbours is far worse. Hope this weekend is quieter for you.
