Dragon scales – My Sunday Photo

Spotted a fungi covered stump on our dawn chorus walk. Easy to over look when your eye is drawn to the woodland floor, covered by the spectacular and colourful show of bluebells and stitchwort.

To me, this is just as spectacular. The texture and subtle shades. Like scales of a sleeping dragon. Surely a legend or tale should be woven around this old sentry. Am I the only one that walks on, still filling in the blanks of the story for this woodland landmark, I wonder?

  1. Oh goodness – this likes like the stuff that’s growing up our beloved cherry tree. Yes, it’s interesting looking, but I suppose it means the end of the tree, since I think these things don’t appear on healthy specimens.

    1. Sorry for your cherry tree. I’m sure you are right. Nature has a wonderful way of recycling, but not great if it’s a tree you love.

  2. I love a walk in the forest and discovering things like this. Although it’s sad teh tree is just a stump now it is still quite beautiful in it’s new altered state #mmbc

    1. It is a very well managed wood, so I suspect it was cut for good reason. I love seeing how these woods change over time.
