It’s back to school for the children today and back to work for me. We had a quiet week, just catching up… and not rushing around. I for one needed it.

The children loved having time to play in the garden. After a winter of having the garden pretty much to themselves, I think the chickens were a tad surprised to find themselves the centre of attention again. The children started making plans for the summer garden and looking at the summer residence for the chickens. I love their energy!

There were lots of creative projects in the house too, but most are still in progress.  One sewing project that I did finish was a pair of fun leggings for AJ. You should just be able to see them between the welly boots and jumpers.

Can’t help wondering if I should have made farming overalls instead! Ah well.

There is a touch or two of Spring in the air.  I have the urge to sew pretty things, wipe away the dust and pop seeds in seed trays. Anyone else?

There are times when I’m doing AJ’s hair that I could do with a telephone directory to stand on, just to give me that extra height! They are growing so fast. I think I’ve sorted trousers for this month, but it does feel like painting the old Forth bridge.

  • Oh yes.. definitely feeling the nudge here even though I’m sure that spring is still afar in the distant future. I’m voting for the leggings. She’s the prettiest farmer I’ve seen and I think it has something to do with the leggings..

Planning the garden for the Summer sounds lovely. We have to wait until mid May for that one, but I’m already looking forward to it!

I love the pictures of chicken holding! My children love to hold chickens too. In fact the chickens seem to join in most of the outdoor games the children play, and have now taken to hopping up on the trampoline on their own!
I too am thinking of Spring, or should I say longing for Spring! Its bitterly cold here this weekend, and the garden feels unfriendly and stark. I always find it hard to imagine it in its full summer colours, but I know it won’t be long now.
Our polytunnel needs a new cover again after a very windy winter. I cannot wait to be in there, bathed in the suns golden rays, nurturing little seedlings again. Spring really is the best time of year isn’t it!!

I think the dream of the summer is the very motivation us gardeners need to hang on to. Otherwise seeds would never make it into pots in time. I’m looking forward to the end of mud season and the start of Spring too.
