Elderflower Cordial time again!

I love elderflower cordial. We have several elder trees in our garden and, this time of year, the elderflower scent seems to fill the air, no matter where you are in the garden.

This week I headed into one of our nearest towns, to pick up the citric acid that I needed for the elderflower cordial. I knew I could buy some at the brewer shop. While I was in town, I decided to pop into the local cake decorating shop, especially after my latest attempt at icing! It turns out that the shop has shut, as well as the local hardware store. In fact the only shop that the lady, serving me in the brewer’s shop, could recommend was the recently opened supermarket. Not the specialised range I was hoping for!

As I left I looked down the high street and realised how many of the specialised shops have been replaced with take aways and charity shops. Makes me think. I bought extra citric acid, just in case the brewer’s shop isn’t there next year.

Anyway 2 litres of elderflower cordial made and bottled. I used a different recipe which included orange peel. I’ll be making another batch, with last year’s recipe, without the orange next time. Bit too dominating a flavour.

Today has been windy, but dry. I found a new spot in the garden to sit. Perfect for spending time sewing and listening to the birds. I’ve got several projects to share, once I remember to take photos of them.

While I sewed, the gardeners got on with cutting the grass at the base of the fruit trees. It makes me smile every time I see this team in action.

Hope you are having a good weekend!

  1. SO jealous of the elderberry cordial. I don’t think elderberries grow here. And the bean house brings back memories. We always had one for our kids when they were little. They still remember them fondly. I do hope you get a chance to raise some bees. Honestly, it’s not that difficult. One more thing – would you mind popping back to my blog and indulging my “proud granny” moment 🙂 xx

  2. Hello Cheryl, thankyou for visiting my blog and leaving a kind comment about my rag rug. Your blog is very homely and I love your garden.

    1. Oh, I wish I could send you some, but I will definitely think of you next time I’m enjoying a glass. I’m enjoying this recipe a bit more now. Maybe I needed to let it stand for a while.
