Ta-Da and To-Do Creative Catchup

finished beekeepers quilt

It is an age old truth that when a crafter* starts a project, before that project is complete, many more projects may have left the starting post. The next idea will start nagging, or the urge to knit becomes more important than the act of sewing. It might be a lack of self – discipline, but I’d prefer to call it multi-tasking.

(*there are always exceptions to the rule. I wish I knew their secret.)

So first I give you a ta-da. My Beekeeper Quilt is finally finished. (fanfare, please) All sewn up and being used. I love it. This has been such a satisfying project, but it’s taken soooo long. I loved knitting the individual hexis. Each one was like a little project of its own. The sewing stage was a tad tedious, but would I make another? Oh yes, although I’m not sure I need two of these quilts.

One knitting project down and two others on the go. One is a present in the making, so photos to follow after Christmas. The other is a jumper for me. I know! When did I last knit a jumper for me? Not sure, but here it is. This is a well tested pattern. It was the first pattern I ever knitted. I still have that beginner’s jumper. So well worn that it’s now only good enough for gardening. Time for a new one. In red.

patchwork in progress

I do have a number of sewing projects on the go. I can’t even bring myself to count how many. (hides head in hands). I start. Then something happens and I start another. An ongoing project is my Dear Daughter quilt. I have the next block ready, with just some extra applique to add.

pumpkin carvingLuckily the children seem able to start a project and finish it. Well almost. They still seem to think that the last one at the table, clears up. That would be me. They are fast runners. Masters of stealth and distraction. Oh well. I just need to bottle their enthusiasm and determination, for later use. Might get a few more sewing projects finished.

Please tell me that I’m not the only one with many crafty projects on the go.

  1. Well done with the quilt – what a great project! You just have buckets of patience for a project like that.I am no talented crafter like you but am also guilty of not finishing projects before starting others. I have two jumpers I started for the girls many months ago that are in various states of nearly done but have recently finished a pai of trousers for Roo and need to make baby her stocking soon… I blame the lack of time!

  2. I so admire you making the Bee Kepper Quilt, I did make a couple of these but found them fiddly, It looks wonderful, well done.
I know exactly what you mean about having another project in your head, mine is buzzing all of the time with things I want to make, so much so that I wish I could block some of them out. lol

  3. I think having such a big project to work on as the Beekeepers Quilt means you absolutely have to be unfaithful to it. A few bits of knitting on the side are necessary for sanity.

Sewing projects do not count as cheating on knitting.

A special quilt such as your Dear Daughter quilt falls in the same category as the Beekeeper.

You have to have a mobile project, also a project you can do without too much thought, and another one with which you can really challenge your brain.

All current projects are allowed to be bumped by a new idea for a present due soon.

Finally, sometimes we get finish-itis. How would we cope if we didn’t have lots of things hanging around to be finished?

  4. a huge congratulations to you!! your beekeeper blanket is absolutely gorgeous!!

i don’t have a clue either as to how people can only ever have one wip…. i’m all over the place! i’m hoping to get to some of mine this fall/winter. but the holidays are coming and i have *five* friends who are having babies in the spring!! so there’s lots of reasons to start new projects too 🙂
