Blast from the Past

tape and stitching

Stitchin’ and listen’. I can thank my school friend Vicky, and her brother, for introducing me to “The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy”. She lent me her brother’s cassette tapes of the original radio programme. When I should have been revising for A’Levels, I listened over and over again to the tapes. I joined the ranks of people who laughed at the meer mention of Marvin the Paranoid Android and Vogon Poetry.

Since then, I’ve read the books, seen the TV series and watched the film. Every now and again, I catch the re-runs of the original radio programmes, which is still the best.

My luck was in this week. The children love visiting the Oxfam book shop. Especially at the moment, as children books are two for one. This week, my eye caught sight of the “Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy” book on tapes. Fortunately, we still have one machine that plays cassette tapes. Added bonuses, I’ve also introduced the children to the Guide and to the joy of turning over cassettes to listen to the next chapter.

suffolk puffs

A project from last summer, that somehow got lost when I started sewing name tapes into school clothes. Somehow, the two distinctly unrelated themes, fit perfectly together. Traditional and surreal. Babel fish and yo-yos. Hmmm. Might just go off and ponder this one………
