Three is a magic number

One of the advantages of working from home is that, come the school holidays, the children can play while I work. Usually, I clear my desk for the start of the holidays, but it just wasn’t possible this week. I worked and they played.

On the whole, they are happy to make up their own games. I’m not going to pretend that they always get on like a house on fire. Sometimes it works, and other times, I have to step in.

This afternoon, I finally got to the point, where I could down tools and join in with them. They voted for lunch out and a local play park.

I was really struck by how they chose to play as a trio most of the time. Nicely too. Being an odd number, sometimes someone can be left out, but they involved everyone in the game today.

There was room to run and explore.

Sometimes, one of them would try out something on their own, but most of the time they ran around as a trio.

So I do think that three is a magic number.

By the end they were hot and sticky. Ready for a drink. While buying the drinks in a nearby shop, I also found the materials for an awesome fabric project that we have on our summer list. Very exciting.

Joining in with Fiona’s very clever #CountryKids linky. If you are after a little outdoor inspiration, I’d suggest you head on over.

  1. I’m glad to hear about three playing nicely together, my lot are okay at the moment, but the wee girl is still a bit too young. Gives me hope for the future! That looks like a great park 🙂

    1. I guess any more than one, and there are bound to be moments of disagreement. My hope is that they will grow up seeing each other as friends.

  2. It’s really good when they play together nicely 🙂 I work from home too but my boys a little young for them to self occupy whilst I work. It does mean that when I finish we still have time to go to the park like you did 🙂 #countrykids

    1. Being slightly older makes a big difference. They used to go to their childminder in the holidays, but now they’re happy to be home.

  3. Well done for managing to find time in your work schedule to take your children out. That looks like such a nice park! My little ones would love these three slides.

  4. What fun photos and a great park, it looks like you all had a fun family day out 🙂 #Countrykids

    1. This one caters for the full range of children, plus it has a great area for children in wheelchairs, which I’ve not seen before.

  5. what a fun looking park!!

three can be hard, its wonderful that for the most part it doesn’t seem to bother them! sibling love is the best!
i’m the oldest of 5, it’s me, two brothers, and then two sisters. the brothers and sisters always paired off and i joke that i was left to play with the cat! probably explains why i love cats so much! 🙂

    1. I’m youngest of four, but I still think I partnered off with the dogs more. Sibling dynamics are complex, but the love is special.

    1. Always swings and roundabouts with whatever number. I’m sure he will make lots of friends, with some that are very special.
